I would like to hear from those guy's that have mounted a single or dual remote oil filter on their trucks. What brand kit did you use, or what type mount? Where did you mount it on the truck? What problems have been associated with the mount? Are leaks a problem? With the increased distance from the engine, are you concerned with increased start-up wear caused by low oil pressure? Do you have any advice for those that would conceder adding a single or dual remote oil filter set-up to their trucks? Thanks for the time.

I don't currently have the set up but I have had on past trucks. I think my preference would be for a single by pass filter but I have had both. I don't really think there is a lag as such a small amount of oil passes through the minute opening.

I used an Amsoil set up. I think with the dual remote there would be a slightly increased chance of a lag in pressure build up, especially in cold start ups.

I have the dual remote system from Amsoil. Didn't see any real drop in oil pressure. The system seems to be working, as I have 30,000 miles on the oil,and sampling says that the oil is still good to go. This is with changing the filters, and adding makeup oil, every 10,000 miles. However, I have it mounted on the frame, where they reccomended it, and "BIG MISTAKE"! It sends a harmonic growl into the cab, and easily doubleing if not tripleing the noise that I otherwise had. If you could find a place on the engine to mount it, I think it would be alright.

Otherwise no leaks as of yet. FWIW

Here is one spot you can install a "Single Remote" by-pass.

Here is another spot, just behind the front bumper on the passenger side.

I have had the Amsoil dual remote mounted on one of Ted Kidd's mounts for 120k now (a member I have not seen on here for quite a while). It mounts on the passenger side battery. I bought everything but the mount and the ss line from member CPFF including his billet adapter ( I would have bought his battery mount as well but didnt know he had one until after I already ordered Teds and since then CPFF has an ss line kit as well). CPFF's billet adapter is very nice, darn near a peice of art. It allows you to swivel it so you can place the line output where you want it not where it just happens to end up from screwing on the one supplied by Amsoil. I also used ss lines with I think Russell fittings (the amsoil line I am sure is good enough but I just wanted more protection was a bit leary of letting the oil out of the block). The ss line is very abrasive so I sleeved it with heater hose where it contacted anything else. I have not had any problems or leaks at all. If I had to do it again I might just go with a bypass instead of the dual but it sure is nice being able to change both filters from the same place that is easy to get too. I do not have any noise at least that I can hear.

I have been running my dual remote for 30k with no problems what so ever. I didnt drop any oil pressure and it does not make any noise. My is mounted on a custom bracket that sits over the passenger battery. No leaks ... . nothing!

I've had a setup identical to BarryG's for 160000 mi. , except that I fabricated a mount which is attached to the passenger-side battery hold-down bolt.

Had no problems & am very satisfied with the dual-remote setup.

I have the amsoil single bypass, mounted on CPFF's battery mount billet adapter. Very slick install, makes changing filter very easy. I also tee'd off this system for an incab mechanical oil pressure gauge. The tiny hole in the amsoil filter adapter keeps engine oil pressure the same as before. My oil return was tapped into my valve cover with a 1/8 NPT elbow. I have about 20k on the system with no real problems, leaks, or noise.

I noticed a slight groan from the filter when the oil was cold, I have since added a mechanical oila nd fuel pressure gauge so you can imagine the noise now. Just something I've grown accustomed to now.

Remote Filter

I have the Amsoil BMK-11 mounted to the right side battery bracket. I made a bracket to mount the filter adapter. I ran the supply and return lines by pulling the left plug out of full flow filter mount Supply, and drilled out the oil filler cap Return. Then installed a swivel mount supplied by Amsoil into cap.

Did'nt realize your truck was a 2nd gen. Here ie a very good place to mount a single remote by-pass, using a simple 2X4 to attach the by-paas to the passenger side battery. Return is at the oil fill cap using a "Swivel" fitting.

I have the City Diesel remote mount oil filter kit installed on my '02 CTD and feel it is one of the best modifications I have done. The kit is very well designed and is made of high quality materials. An added bonus is that it uses factory filters and makes oil changes a breeze. Check it out at the link in Tim's post above.

Does anybody have a picture of this on a rig???? I mean looking under the vehicle???? Also - am I wrong or does the oil go everyplace when you unscrew it as it appears the filter is parallel to the ground... ...

Hammersley,

I don't have a picture, but I can tell you that the oil drains straight down into a drain pan when you slightly unscrew the filter. After it is done draining, finish unscrewing the filter and install a new one -- absolutely no mess at all. The oil filter is parallel to the front crossmember and the original bottom of the filter points to the drivers side of the truck. It is also very nicely tucked up out of harms way.

Thank you very much for all of the post, I enjoyed reading and learning from them. I have decided to go with the Billet adapter mount from member CPFF. I am not a fan of the normal cast aluminum type mounts found in most kits, they crack way to easy and are porous which is easy to leak. For the filter mount I chose the Amsoil dual by-pass filter mount #BK-209 same as the BK-15 kit for the Cummins. To be different I also chose to try the Amsoil AMK-01 Pre-Charger. It basically a small oil accumulator, where it stores a certain amount of engine oil under pressure and releases that oil before the engine starts, pre charging the oil system and avoiding dry starts. For the lines and fittings I Will go with EARL'S, they have always worked well for me in the past. I have not decided on the hose size yet, it will be #8 or 10 Perform-o-flex hose. I will also fashion my own mount, I do not like the filters next to the batteries or in the engine compartment. I am trying to keep the heat out of the area, and I also don't like the clutter. I will mount the filters up front behind my Buckstop, on the right hand side.

When you are finished please post your results and alot of pictures. I am also looking into doing a remote mount system. I am getting tired of taking my filter pipe off to get to the oil filter.

I really like the one from city diesel, but the cost is driving me away.
