I went to trans shop in Eastern CT on 12/31 to figure out issue. I told him I had shifting issue after 4K miles on fluid and filter change by aamco. Not shifting into 3 and 4th very well once fluid warmed up. If I stepped on pedal hard or to downshift, it wouldn't shift back into next gear until I fully let off pedal or put in neutral, then back to drive again. TDR memebers told me likely govenor solenoid and transducer needed replacing. He told me to take his truck and he needed vehicle for morning. I got 20 minutes up the road and he called me to tell me to come back, I had worse issues. He showed me the pan. I attached pic of what was in pan besides the magnet shown too. He says I must have lost 4th gear or overdrive. Known to wear out in these trannys. So, I tell him I cannot afford pulling off tailshaft and replacing band for 800. 00 right now. I tell him to give me the parts and replace solenoid and transducer. Calls me back hour later and says I am "all set" and it shifts fine now..... Do u guys think he was trying to "Hose" me by tossing in parts or could my transmission still shift perfectly if these band parts actually came out of my trans?

Maybe, maybe not. That looks a lot like the remains of a thrust washer, and, if it did in fact come out of your trans you may have additional issues. On the other hand, unless you trust this shop and person implicitly a little suspicion may be in order.

The transmission may shift fine lacking a thrust washer but exhiibit other issues including but not limited to: a clunk on engaging a gear or reversing, unexplained clunks in the drive line on decelration, slow enagement of gears, whining or other noises that were not present before.

Only way to know for sure is tear it down, not what you wanted to hear I am sure. :(

My B. S. meter is pinging...

How well do you know this shop?

i would not take my lawn mower to aamco... or any of those quick lube places... just look on YouTube and they have undercover vid, of people screwing customers and running up there bills... that was a jiffy lube place also... .

Hey Guys: The Thrust Washer answer posted by Cerberusiam..... Is that in Overdrive area only or is it between all gears? I heard from a Chrysler dealer that it was "only" in overdrive mecanisim. It really seems best it has ever been shifting except... . When I take off with easy pedal, seems to shift little hard into 2nd. If I am medium pedal, shifts ok. But it shifts into rest of gears easier than 1st to 2nd. I remember hitting it hard one day to pull out into/across traffic. It grabbed hard, spun a little bit, and torqued across road. Could I have over-torgued 1st gear hard and maybe make something spit out of it into pan. I did this after Aamco fluid change and month b-4 I just took it in to other trans shop in Eastern, CT. My 15 year old was with me and he commented... . "Dad, I didn't think your truck took off this fast!".
Still not really sure if metal parts were there or added to it. I never dealt with this trans shop b-4. No history. Guy was "Unable to look me in the Eye" when he was telling me that he felt I had more issues than Gov solenoid and transducer.
Drove 500 miles up to Maine and Back last night. seems fine so far. ALSO, I can't seem to keep my truck from "Overboosting 34lbs" and "Check Engine Light" pops on. I have a Bullydog GT Diesel Tuner and I have it set to "DeFuel at 30 lbs of boost"..... but when I load it, it pops over 34 to 36-38 lbs... . hence the overboost check engine light pops on. I know it's not good to go over 34 lbs boost with stock 2007 HO 5. 9..... Any ideas would be helpful!
Or maybe I need to go into Engine Forum to get answrrs? Again, only been on TDR for couple of weeks.

Thanks!

Yeah, like a dealer even knows how to get the pan off the transmission.

There is 7 or 8 thrust washers in the transmissions, and some other things that could be from. Not just in the OD unit either.

If the hard 1-2 shift was not there before you might have an issue. Hard to tell but it is possible.

I wouldn't let it go. I had an '88 E350 with a C6 in it, and during a normal service, found a piece of a broken snap ring in the pan. The transmission still worked fine, but the resulting end play allowed a rear thrust washer to drop out of place. Continued operation would have ruined the case. The transmission had too much end play from brand new, that's probably what caused the original problem. I had to add thicker shims at the front of the input drum to get the correct end play.
