Alaskaskiff made a good point about the possibility of a dealer's mechanic reading the TDR. I have purposely taken a copy of the TDR to read while I am waiting and have ask the Service Manager at two dealers if they were familiar with the TDR and neither man admitted to having any knowledge about the organization and was not interested the least bit in looking at the magazine even when I endorsed the informative nature of it. I suggested to one that it would be a good magazine to place in the lunch room for the mechanics to read. That idea really went over like a lead balloon!

I have only been to the two dealerships and cannot recommend either one of them. The last one I had to go to was for the throttle cable and the hood latch recalls. Both recalls were done in 40 minutes which was about half of the allotted time and the idle speed was not readjusted to the proper RPM. I am not sure the TPS was verified correct but it seems to be running OK.

I share most of the same apprehension many others in the forum have expressed in going to the dealers. It is a scary situation and the few times I have had to go worries me. If at all possible, I don't want anyone working on my truck.

Jammar, I met you at that dealer when you were getting the above mentioned work done. They replaced a rear seal for me under my extended warranty. They wanted to install new brakes at the same time, that way that go paid twice. Once by the warranty and once by me. Told them no on the brakes. When I picked up the truck I took it home and pulled the rear wheels and found that they did not clean up any grease. I cleaned it up and call them back and chewed some butt. I agree with you all of the dealers are worthless. I have a local place I will use for the hard to do non warranty stuff. They are less than half the price of the dealer.

I'm lucky to have 5 dealerships within 50 miles of me not counting the whole Nashville area. But the McMinnville one has a bad rap on the dealer page and the localist one (6 miles) is also a Ford dealer and the diesel tech (who has always worked for ford--but his previous job included Class 8 trucks and Cummins association) may be a good mechanic BUT HE KNOWS--SURE AS HELL that Ford owns Cummins. Nevermind the statement that I took them from the Cummins site to the contrary.

They didn't want to diddle with the lift pump, so I went to Cummins in Nashville and bought one and put it on myself. Not cheaper, but faster and no hassles and done RIGHT.

Now I need a ECM reflash for the '00 hiccup. So I'm going to the dealer in Lebanon, TN. I know a salesman there and he wanted to introduce me to the service manager, but he wasn't there the other day. They service a large number of Cummins trucks up there and the salesman said that they NEVER order gas 2500/3500 trucks for the lot.

I'll report back on how it all goes. I'm going to go back with TSB in hand and salesman at my side to kick things off on the right foot.

I ain't going back to the local Ford/DC store, but I do think I'll complain to D/C about their mistaken beliefs and see what happens.

By the way Dixie Dawg, I lived in Atlanta for about 15 years and my wife was a FDIC Bank examiner for outstate Georgia. We visited a lot of small Georgia towns and found the people to be really nice. The way you were treated was not very nice and seems out of character. You might check and see if a Yankee owns that Dodge dealership. Could be a carpetbagger :)

There are quite a few Yankees on this board. Just 'cause we own big trucks doesn't make us all rednecks. Keep talking like that and we'll have to start assuming you've started wallowing in a pit of your own bull..... ;)

When I worked in a Dodge dealership walk-in's almost always were taken immediately even if other customers had been considerate enough to make an appointment. I made the service writers very unhappy when I would put the appointments ahead of the walk-in's. I couldn't do it all the time because the service manager would have a fit. I guess that's part of the reason I don't work there any more.

My best advice is to get with the DC zone rep and stay on his a$$ until you get results.
