To say I'm unhappy is an understatement... . I'll try to make this short.

This morning I go out to warm up my truck. 40 degrees. I start it, the timing rattle is INSANE, it does this for like 3-4 seconds then calms down. It runs fine all the way to work. I was in a hurry so I told myself I would take it off after I got off. I ended up working a long shift today and it was 9 oclock. I was in a hurry to get to Cheddars to meet my Girlfriend for dinner.

I start the truck up and again, the SAME thing. timing rattle for 3-4 seconds. After I ate, I unloaded the Smarty off of my truck.

I get on the interstate and immediately notice that my truck is in limp mode. It will not pull itself past 60mph unless your going down hill.

The ABS light is on. And the parking brake light is on. (it should only flash when its set)

----------------------------------------------------------- #@$%!

Now I'm home. I just unhooked the batteries and I'm going to let it sit for 15 minutes and go back out and see if that fixes it. I'll try to load the bully dog back on the truck to see if that will possible re-write the programming:confused:

I've had more problems in the last THREE days with the Smarty than I've had with the bully dog in the 20,000 miles that it has been on the truck.

What do you guys think?

Here is a picture of the abs and parking brake lights...

Sorry for the poor quality it was my picture phone.

I highly doubt that it is that. What is the odds of that going out when I unloaded the Smarty? The truck is in limp mode. I put the tst on 9x9 and it won't pull itself out of a hole.

I'm 100% sure it's the Smarty. Im going back out to try putting the battery cables back on and downloading the bully dog. Hopefully this doesn't screw it up further but I gotta have a truck to drive to work tomorrow. My cj7 is broke

I just worked on it for a bit. I did the trick with the battery cables. It alone fixed part of the problem. The brake light was flashing like is should be.

A guy on the phone told me to try the back up 50ft, pull foward, shut truck off thing. I did that two times and about gave up but on the third time the lights DIDN'T come on.

The truck was still in limp mode. I took it out on my dirt road and it literally wouldn't spin the tires in gravel. I turned around and came back home. I debated on trying to load the bully dog. I had no clue if it would screw something up worse. I loaded it and everything is GOOD now.

Big thanks to the guys on the forums and the guys I talked to on the phone. You know who you are!

I can't believe it went back ok. I thought I was screwed! All this time bombing my truck and I've never had a problem like this... Trust me, it makes you nervous. Earlier today I heard HORROR stories of a guy that loaded the Smarty in his 06 and the batteries went dead(from the recall thing) and it completely wiped out everything... . Long story short he gets to have Dodge re-program his truck $$$$

Man I'll be able to sleep good tonight!

I haven't tried taking the bully dog off yet to see if it still works. Heck I'll just leave it on!

Thanks again guys!

i dunno too much about the smarty, but isnt there a 1/2 power mode maybe you slipped that in there by accident? Just thought id throw that out there incase...

Looks like everyone forgot to focus on the insane timing rattle at startup. It would lead me to beleave it's a program clitch.

I think it is a Glitch. I now have it off of my truck and the bully dog back on and it starts up fine. It for sure didn't like my truck.

The only problem is... I turn the key on and there is a LOUD buzzing sound on the drivers side of the engine. It stays on until I start it up. After that I can't tell if it is still buzzing:confused:

06 Smarty

I installed Smarty on my 2006 yesterday. I first installed the SW3 setting. Everything went as it was supposed to. I then unloaded #3 and went back to stock. Fine again. Later yesterday afternoon, I reinstalled Smarty, this time with SW 5 setting. Still fine.

Sorry to hear about your problems, but the unit I have is working as advertised. I'm certainly nervous that it could fritz out at any time... . :(

Ross, hopefully everything will be fine. You should be alright... I thought I was too until I took it off.

I had a version sent to me in a pm because apparently the original version that was sent out wasn't right. I was taking it off to load the new program and try it again. I just didn't get that far until the damage was done... .

Hopefully the buzzing isn't my ECM:confused:

first bet would be lift pump running [as per new DC flash], but the GDP in your sig indicates your lift pump is no longer there by the filter...

abs pump/module maybe?

lift pump would be a good guess, but I do have the Walbro down on the frame now.

How can I tell if its the abs?

Thanks nick!

Unrelated to this thread but his lift pump is an in-tank lift pump that has been replaced with aftermarket. 05 and later trucks have in-tank lift pumps.

thats the same symyom i had after i tryed anything other than the bully dog, timming rattle and limp mode----runs fine with the bully dog on. the bully dog is the problem, it messes up your ecm somehow

The truck this program belongs to had a bully dog on it before this Smarty.

Point is... ALL trucks react differently to programming. There isn't a programmer out there that is "perfect".

Besides... my truck responded better to the bully dog. It had more bottom end and I can actually use my tst now.

The 04 responds better to the Smarty alot better than the bully dog... Maybe Marco can chime in on why some trucks react differently than others... .

Check your ABS controller on the driver's side fender too. Mine went out and would sit there and run with the key off too. Sat there and buzzed.

I pulled the fuse for it out of the PDC and it stopped the pump fron running, but teh brake/ABS light is still lit on my truck(haven't replaced the unit yet).

This happened right after I bought the truck(used) and I hadn't even lifted the hood yet.
