Tool Box For Swb

Does anyone know a "brand" that will fit w/o taking a hammer to the wheel wells. How about the max measurement that will allow the lid to open and not get into the wheel well rise? Thanks, Doc

I use a Weather Guard model 127 saddle box. Dimensions: H: 18 3/8" W: 20 5/8" L: 71 3/8". It's Aluminum diamond plate but they make different finishes and configurations.

A different tool box

Found an add for TUFFY Box that fills the void rear of the wheel well. Seems like a good idea, but no dealer close by. Anyone have any experience with this type box or know where to get them. They DO NOT go over the bed rails

I just read that same ad last night in a Off Road magazine ad. That box caught my eye as well. I'm going to look into it myself.

I have a WeatherGuard model 664 tool chest. I bought it for my 1st '01 which was a SWB, and it worked fine. Then installed it in a LWB '01, and next it will go in the '04. 5 LWB. I don't know if it will fit in a 3rd gen SWB or not because of the -3" on the 3rd gen, but the WeatherGuard website doesn't say it won't fit.

Found some possibility on the Contico site. They show a steel box that fits in the dead space in front of the wheel wells. I will check on prices on Monday and post. These SWB are tough to get storage that doesn't go up on the rails. Thanks, Doc

over the rail box

I've seen a low profile over the rail diamond plate box at a truck accessory's place called Earl Owens in Sherman TX. But at the time I was having nerf bars installed, and did'nt question them about the fit on the 03 Dodge. I did like the looks of it an was wondering if it would be ok to use looking at getting a 5ver in the future. I did not measure it, but looked like it only stuck over the rail a inch or so.

I have a Weatherguard #654 wedged into my 04 SWB 2500. It fits but it is in contact with the wheel wells. It is left over from my F**d and I wanted to reuse it. It probably would not be considered the "right" size.

I have the Ultra series from these guys, and love it. Very high quality, light weight, but not cheap. Fits very well, even with rail caps and a BedRug.

I reused my weather guard, but before putting it in, I "Bombed" it by measuring cutting and welding about six inches by 8 inches by 10 inches so that it would clear the wheel wells. still have all that useable space in the middel and only gave up a little on the front conners. worked out great.

Going to order the boxes that fit over the wheel wells. HD doesn't kill on the freight and there price is fair. I'll post how they fit (if they don't I'll take em back). Thanks, Doc
