I am looking for suggestions on what tools and spares you pros carry when your on the road. I'll be departing next month on a 7,000 round trip and returning to Alaska with a trailer and horses. Any help is appreciated. :)

With the ever evolving saga of our failing lift (transfer) pumps. I would start out with a spare lift pump and the tools needed to swap out same.

Radiator hoses, coolant, belt, fuel filter and lots of tools. My son kids me about taking enuff tools to build me another truck. I respond that I haven't walked yet! Throw in a fender cover while you are at it.

Spares

How about and extra fuel filter or 2 and the proper tools to change it. Ya never know when your going to pull into and fill up with bad fuel.

Fuel Filter Lid

Grab an extra fuel filter housing lid, they are right around $10. 00. Comes with an O-ring. If you break the lid when you R&R the filter you could be in bad shape.

All good suggestions. Have the spare filters but didn't consider an extra fuel filter housing cap. It does seem like it would be easy to crack or strip the top nut on it.

Being a licensed ham gives me a means of communications.

Thanks.

Most important

And DO NOT forget the 2. 5 or 5 gallon can of spare fuel!!!

Wrenches or filters will not fill the fuel tank or prime your filters in case of disaster. You may even help out another TDR member along the way. :)

Carrying a road hazard warning sign kit may also be a good idea too.

I just got back from a 5000 mile road trip that I started with 10,000 miles on the truck.

I made sure all fluids were changed and ready. (put on my new rear Mag-Hytec as well) made sure I had extra oil and a spare fuel filter ( and that HUGE 1 1/8 socket for the fuel filter cover) and a spare oil filter.

I also made sure I had plenty of fuel additives so my lift pump would live a long happy life while I was on my trip and beyond. I think these guys are just pulling your leg about the lift pump ;) It's a concern but if your really worried about it, install a fuel pressure gauge so you can monitor it.

The truck ran like a champ. But if your still worried take along a copy of the Travel Companion located in the TDR exclusives section. I did and if you have spare toime you can put a few faces to the people that post :D

Good Luck

The only things I carry with me on a trip are a socket for the fuel filter cap and a cresent wrench and a leatherman.
