My subscription to TDR, and all the valuable advice I get from the great guys (and gals) on this site.

That's how I'm slowly going broke at the same time my UPS guy is getting a hernia. :D

tools you could not live without

5 ton floor jack. Sorry but the stock one doesn't cut it and I can't lift up the front end by hand like I used to.

Pit Bull,

The filter wrench that resembles an odd shaped pair of pliers works very well. If you can believe it the Craftsman Strapwrench works very well once you get the @*%$&@ thing around the filter.

PS guys don't forget the DC Shop Manual

needed tools

You really need that 5 pound sledge hammer to break loose the steel wheels from the hub when you go to remove the front wheels. The guy at the tire store showed me that trick. Also you need a heavy duty floor jack and 5 ton or better jack stands.

Oil Filter wrench

Found a strap wrench at the local AutoBarn. Seems they dont carry it anymore. Has a square tube for a 1/2 drive. Gets any filter off. It's great cause the tube extends up parrallel with the filter. So you dont have to try and get room down at the fender well. . just add a short extension and you can turn 360 degs... .

I tried a bunch of filter wrenchs. . got a bucket of them now... to me this is it for the CTDRam.

Grainger still sells it, even online.

Yea I got one of those $8. 00 open oil filter wrenches, it workes but you have to watch it or it will slip off and slam your hand into the clamp bolt for the turbo tube:mad: Maybe I need to change it:p

I love buying tools

Auto Zone carries the filter wrenches you guys are talking about. :) They are about $8 and are the greatest thing since sliced bread. :D

My brotherinlaw is my best tool. He's a pretty good diesel grease monkey. :p Really good working on PowerJokes:( (International boy);)

What's the matter with you pusseys you can't take your oil filters off by hand?:D I'm 55 and I take mine off by hand all the time. I only had to "persuade" it one time and it got the message. (But I do have a filter wrench for back-up. )

I also keep in the truck: 4 S-K socket sets--3/8 & 1/2 drive and a metric 3/8, also a 1/4 drive. An S-K box end wrench set and closed set. I keep a torque wrench and several allen sets, a couple of Crescent wrenches, a grease gun & extra grease, 1 extra jack, 2 flashlights, Service Manual, a spotlight, wiring supplies, 3 extra fuel filters, magnetic screwdriver set with lots of tips, pliers, side nippers, rear axle-nut socket, leather work gloves, welding gloves, condoms, 4-0 jumper cables, jackstands, a Milwaukee drill, & 1/16 to 1/2 drill set, ext. cord, extra rear bulbs, 2 walkie talkies, 36" bolt cutters, soldering gun & solder, tire chains, 2 towing straps, several rolls of paper towels, soap, toilet paper, windex, Police Surplus riot club, plus some other stuff I can't remember right now. Most of it I keep in the toolbox. I like to be prepared!

I keep a very complete set of tools in the truck at all times but the two tools I use the most or my American Express and Visa Cards.
