I can come up with 1, but only 1. . The overhead sunglasses holder.

In every other way, my 03 exceeds my 01. 5. Even the windshield wipers and washers are better. .

UNH-HUNHhhhh... .

You fellas get back to us in a year or so, and we'll see what the numbers look like then... . :p ;) :D

I wish ya the BEST!:D

Got me !

JW,

You got me. I couldn't imagine what any sane person would miss about their '01.

David,

I don't even miss that, my sunglasses wouldn't even fit in that little thing.

Gary,

The difference between 2G and 3G is, you guys already know all of the shortcomings of th 2Gs. Those of us with 3G trucks are on a new adventure of discovery. :D

I guess it depends on how you look at it...

First off let me say that I have been extremely happy with my Y2K CTD since day one. The two Dodge dealers by my house have 20-30 of the 2003 CTD's in stock and I have looked at them. There are some nice changes to the 3rd gen's but until DC comes out with a "true" crew cab (not just one a few inches longer) I'm staying with what I have. I couldn't imagine giving them my truck plus another 20K just to have a 3rd gen.

If it were time for me to buy a new one now I'd be hard pressed to buy the Dodge.

Stupid DC don't you get it... a few more inches does not make a CREW CAB

YUP - *THAT* was exactly my point!:D :D

Known potential "shortcomings" with MY truck?

1. Lift pump

2. Lift pump

3. Lift pump

4. VP-44, IF you DO have LP problems...

5. Lift pump

'course, about $100 and an afternoon adding a pusher pump so far seems to correct that "shortcoming"...

BUT, it will be interesting to see how the '03's shake down... :)

Ain't being the first kid on yer block with the latest, newest toy GREAT! ;) :D

Big Problem with my '03: I'm getting out of shape; not having to fight the steering to keep my 98. 5 in the lane.

And I agee; it isn't a real 'crew cab' but it is big enough to be comfortable seating for two adults and IMO it's a good compromise to keep the length manageable and focus on quality instead of building a special re-tooled plant just to add a few inches to the wheelbase. But that's just my possibly weak feable minded opinion... . ;)

Top three reasons I don't WANT a 3G.

3. New fuel system.

2. Outside door handles.

1. Minivan dash and controls.

Enjoy yours, I like mine. ;)

2G shortcomings cont'd

6 - Stock HP

7 - Steering wander

8 - suicide doors impossible to get family in and out when parked

9 - having to shut off at drivethrus

10 - have to yell to passengers to carry on conversation at highway speed

11 -

Oh, I better stop. The Ford and Chevy guys are probably really having fun reading this.

hhhmmm... .

I've driven quite a few 2G's... none of them had a probelm with the steering. Maybe I've been lucky.

IMHO sales would increase drastically if DC would "retool" their plant to start building a real crew cab. Seems like a large % of the furd and chevy sales are because of the crew cab. At least that is what I see here in Northern Virginia. Your findings may be different.

Seems to me that a lot of the new cars as well as trucks have gone too modern in their look and feel. I want my truck to look and feel like a truck. That is why I bought it.

Don't get me wrong... I definately like the 3G truck. I just can't justify the 20K difference for the improvements I would get.

"Minivan dash"... that's a good one. Now that you say that... I see what you mean.

"6 - Stock HP"

HMMmmmm - guess that means Edge and the others might as well stop development of power add-ons for the 3G crowd?

"7 - Steering wander "

Hmmmm that must be an option mine didn't come with... Hafta gripe to my dealer about the omission!

"8 - suicide doors impossible to get family in and out when parked "

Forgive my ignorance, but does that mean there are no more quad-cab options in the 3G line?

"9 - having to shut off at drivethrus"

JEEZE, haven't ya ever heard of sign language?

"10 - have to yell to passengers to carry on conversation at highway speed "

You'll have to stop carrying around yer deaf aunt Mabel and uncle George - all the folks riding in MY truck speak and hear quite normally, at ALL speeds!

:p ;) :D

ok; you got me on the minivan dash thing. That seems to be a really popular 'concept' in just about everything these days. A box-like area in the middle with all the controls. But hey; I like it and think it looks good -- but that's just my feeble minded opinion again ;)

Truth be told -- if I hadn't been one of the unlucky ones to get a 2nd gen that wouldn't go straight or stop straight I'd still be driving it. Awesome truck and it was paid for gosh dern it! Coulda' fixed what was ailing the 2nd gen for a-lot less money; but I also wanted four real doors for my teenage boys.

So don't get us wrong; keep driving those 2nd gens (and 1st!). Great trucks all.

OK... . someone has to say it!

The folks that are finding faults with the 2003 HD Rams seem to be the ones that don't own one.

I just couldn't keep silent any longer.

I think everyone that has or is buying an 03 CTD has a great truck. But in my opinion Dodge and Cummins really changed the looks and personality of the Dodge CTD with the 3rd generation. Not really a bad thing, just a different thing. I think Dodge and Cummins this time followed Ford and Chevy instead of leading them when they came out with their 3rd generation trucks. All of the new diesel trucks by the big three are more family vehicles, like a big mini-van with a bed on the back. They are all quiet and comfortable and fun for the whole family. The difference to me is like the difference between the actor John Wayne as the Lawman (2nd generation) and John Wayne as a Rancher with a family (3rd generation). They are both John Wayne, but he is a different kind of person in each role. Not a bad thing just a different Role. :)

NAHHhh - ya got it all wrong - I read up, and saw what was coming in '03 - coulda easily waited and got one of those if I wanted - but I hurried and bought the '02 I now have to AVOID the '03's! Besides when the lead post in a thread like this starts out by knocking the trucks MOST of us are driving, what do you expect the reaction to be?

Even at THAT, my truck has more electronics than I like - and I dern sure didn't want MORE yet in the '03's. I personally think the 03's are a great choice in a truck - but if 2 identically equipped Dodges were side-by-side, one a '02, the other a '03, I'd STILL take the '02 - it's simply a careful, deliberate personal choice - and my choice doesn't make me any more right than the guy who prefers and buys the '03... And "envy" doesn't even BEGIN to come into the picture - I coulda bought whatever I wanted - and STILL can...

Enjoy yer '03's - their great trucks - and I'll do the same with mine!

Very Well Put... Both Good trucks... for sure... just two different ways of going about it...

Only reason I started this thread was to show how happy I was with my new truck, and hopefully get some responses from others that felt the same way. For some reason, many of us are very sensitive about this topic and are reading into it things that aren't. The fact that I don't miss my '01, doesn't say anything negative about it, but rather it says just how good the '03 really is! Depends whether you see the glass half full or half empty. When I followed up by posting 'shortcomings' of my '01, it is an illustration of things that I see as being much improved with the new trucks. Want to know the only reason I traded? 4 full opening doors. All the rest was icing on the cake. I loved my '01 and would have kept it forever if it weren't for the family having to fight the doors all the time.

If I might make a personal comment - lets not let 2G vs 3G happen. I have noticed a few comments here and there on various threads that lead me to believe there might be some things brewing. I just have the feeling that if something went to heck on my truck and I posted it out here, there'd be a few 'I old you so' replies.

As Rodney King once said, "can't we all just get along?"

Gary, I know where you're coming from. The 2003's do drive less like a truck than the second gens. Then again, the second gens drive less like a truck than the first gens. Different strokes for different folks; that's what keeps us all from dieing of boredom.

I believe that we should all pause for a minute before posting, to make sure our post won't hurt someones feelings. I'm sure none of us really want that to happen.
