As a follow-up to my top 5 rock bands thread, comes my list of top 5 country acts. I doubt that it'll be as popular as my first thread, but any one with an interest in country music is welcome to post their thoughts. I was a country fan long before I got into classic rock, but country still runs through my veins. Once a redneck, always a redneck :-laf

Anyway, here goes... ... ...

1. Tim McGraw

2. Chris Ledoux

3. Kenny Chesney

4. George Strait

5. Brooks & Dunn

I don't really want to get into the Country vs. Pop stuff in here, so I will simply put my top 5 COUNTRY singers. :D

1. George Strait

2. Merle Haggard

3. Johnny Cash

4. Waylon Jennings

5. Bob Wills.

You must be young

You forgot the greats like George Jones, Willy Nelson, Johnny Cash, Merl Hagard,Waylan Jengings and many more, It is very hard to narrow it down to just 5.

I think the reason I've gone more to classic rock is because, as you pointed out, country ain't country no more. As for my favorite TRUE country singers, I'd have to go with... ... .....

1. Chris Ledoux

2 George Strait

3. Charlie Daniels

4. Hank Williams Jr.

5. Confederate Railroad

I like my women just a little on the trashy side :-laf

Only 5, huh? That's tough. OK, here it goes-

1. George Strait

2. George Jones

3. Vern Gosdin

4. Waylon Jennings

5. Rhonda Vincent

1. George Strait

2. Merle Haggard

3. Alan Jackson

4. Patsy Cline

5. Dwight Yoakam

This list would probably change depending on the mood I'm in.

Country is now pop music, and for the record, I'm only 27. If you need two names, it ain't country

1 Johnny

2 Waylon

3 Willie

4 Merle

5 Hank

AJ (no, I'm not number 6)

By the way, I think that Waylon and Merle are horribly underrated by classic country stations these days

bmoeller,

Right on. Travis Tritt's Country Ain't Country No More kind of brings out the real life side of things. It used to be everybody wanted to move to the city for the money. Now those people's kids are moving back to the country. I guess it's nice to have new people in the area, but all that city money is driving land prices through the roof. It seems like most of the new people in my area ( north Missouri ) are from Colorado. I just broke up with a chick from there so I don't quite know what to think about them Coloradians. OHHHHHHHHHHHH, I s'pose you can't judge 'em all by one bad apple. And to think i was stupid enough to let her drive my truck. The only time it's been stuck is when she drove it off in a 3ft ditch out in the middle of nowhere. I still have no idea why she wanted to go down that road ;) :-laf

Can't believe you guys forgot about Conway... .

1. Conway Twitty

2. Patsy Cline

3. CDB

4. Hank Williams (and I don't mean Jr... ... )

5. Loretta Lynn

My list is the same as cumminsnbabes true country music singers list . I don't care for a whole lot of the new so called country. My wife and I both really like Bluegrass as well.

1. Hank Williams SR

2. The Outlaws(Individually there could be an argument for them taking at least 2 spots on the Top 5, so I will lump them together

3. George Strait

4. Garth(for the sheer # of records he sold)

5. Alan Jackson(hes my boy, so you knew I'd have to add him)

The list goes on and on... George Jones, Merle Haggard, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline, Shania Twain(sorry I just wanted to see if anyone was still reading my post by now) :-laf

And I hate to say it, but what are you guys that put Bocephus on the list thinking? If it wasnt for Monday Night Football the guy would be broke. There are a few of his songs that are pretty good, but that doesnt throw him to the Top-5 of all time.

My pics are.

1 George Strait

2 Brooks & Dunn

3 Alan Jackson

4 Toby Kieth

5 Travis Tritt

Didn't care for the country music of the 50's 60's early 70's I guess I started listening to country after I settled down & got married in 75 :-laf :-laf

Now I'm strickley country cause I don't like the rock of today & hate rap.
