Okay, not really interested in performance improvements (if they are a by-product, great) but wondering what I should do as first few (say 5?) mods to improve mpg and overall reliability/longevity of the new truck. I am thinking items like a 2 micron filter setup for example. I've been reading for over a month (I'll be lucky if I don't get fired for internet abuse at work) and have read many threads on different mods.

What do you think?

gauges? which ones? where do I get them?

2 micron filter? which one? where do I get it?

bypass oil setup?

any other ideas?

Thanks guys!

Guages... I prefer Autometer. They are in probably 99% of all Nascar/NHRA vehicles. Good enough for me. . I'd get fuel pressure, oil pressure, boost, and pyro, just because all of those things are very important.

2 micron filter. GlacierDiesel has some nice setups. Or you could just piece one together by doing some research.

Bypass oil is a good idea if your a stickler for keeping your oil as clean as possible on this soot machine we call Cummins... I prefer Motorguard or Oilguard. I have both.

Not a bad idea to have an oil analysis done every 6000 miles or so. Like having a bloodtest for your engine.

Improving mileage is a sticky subject... TST is supposed to have something that is timing only and that should pick up a few mpg. Quads' XZT box is a tow box that has done well for most, if you keep your foot outta it... . :D

I agree with above, and would like to add that Synthetic lubes have been proven to increase fuel mileage and reduce wear, so they are a perfect partner for a bypass kit.

Keep your tires properly inflated

TST will yield a decent mileage increase if used on the lowest and or economy settings and no aggressive driving.

Without a bunch of power, I don't see you gaining much from a replacment exhaust, and a drop in replacment air filter will give better mileage and cost less than an full intake system.
