You're right. Angus is definitely the best geetar player of alltime. Maybe a bit of a maniac, but MAN can he play.

If were going in that direction, give me SRV, Hendrix, and Page :D As a guitar player, I can tell you Anguses stuff is very easy to play. .

Duhran Duhran.

Madonna.

Guns And Roses.

Wacko Jacko.

Cool Slice,

His stuff may be easy, but he can take his "easy stuff " to a level far beyond any guitar player to date. I ain't no authority on the nuances of guitar playing, but what I see is his unmatched passion at burnin' up the strings :D

Don't forget Grand Funk; Remember when they opened for Led Zeppelin at Shea I believe it was, and the fans had that entire stadium actually moving up and down. There was no way Zeppelin could top it so their manager wouldn't let them go out! Sorry never really was a Beattle type. I'm a little older(45), so I like the classic bands. Oh, it's hard to leave out ZZ Top.

1. Rolling Stones

2. Grand Funk

3. Led Zeppelin

4. Van Halen

5. Cream

Trying to determine the best guitar player of all time is something that can't really be done. It's all opinion. I've spent many a drunk nights in heated arguements. You just can't convince someone that one of their idols are not the best at what they do. . :-laf

If you think Angus is the best, I ain't gonna waste my time trying to convince you of who I think the best is and why... . I feel almost like I know Angus though, I have spent hours upon hours learning his work and he rocks just as hard as anyone ever has. :D

5: Eagles (still great and touring)

They're still touring, but Don Felder is not in the group. The DJ on the local classic rock station said that he's suing his former bandmates.

FWIW, I'd go with:

RUSH

Led Zeppelin

Pink Floyd

The Who

Lynyrd Skynyrd

But it's sure hard to pick just 5!!

Some that weren't mentioned but deserve consideration are: Boston, Aerosmith, Bad Company, Bob Seger, The Scorpions, Deep Purple, Yes, Fleetwood Mac, Genesis, Heart, The Steve Miller Band, The Pretenders, Journey, Santana, George Thorogood & The Destroyers, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Van Halen, Joe Walsh (solo stuff besides The Eagles), Neil Young, and ZZ Top.

Great thread!

The Eagles - Great music, Inspired a lot of others.

Chuck Berry - Pioneer in the field, although he never had a band. Inspired others.

Skynard - No comment needed.

Stones - Still bad after all these years.

Stuck between Beatles and Elvis

The list is not in any particular order.

A truely great band not only makes great music, but they inspire others

Cool Slice,

Agreed. You can't really determine who the best. Its all opinion. But hey, that's what the forum's for, to discuss topics of interests with other TDR members.

Still, AC/DC runs pretty deep in my soul :D

<--- 25 Here

My personal picks are (in no order)

**STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN**

Def Leppard

Z. Z. Top

AC/DC

Jimi Hendrix

Honorable Mention would have to be:

Van Halen- Great for any occasion!

Lynyrd Skynyrd- All time Southern Rock superstars

Aerosmith- Steven Tyler is great

Scorpions- Just great all around rock

Journey- Good 80's Ballads

Pink Floyd- Great Music, and cool wierd movie

Bob Seger- Good Driving Music

Doors- Jim Morrison and his wierd poetry. . read the book about him; you'll know what I am talking about!

Rolling Stones- Saw them in concert... WOW is all I can say!!

Peter Frampton- Do you feel like we do? What an awesome song!

I may think of other groups, but this is what comes to mind right now. .

MY top all time favorite is Rush, ya can't beat Geddy on bass and vocals and Neil's drumming. There story's are great too.

Next would probably be Metallica, I don't know if it's the onset of a midlife crisis, or maybe I like my music harder as my hearing gets worse.

It's harder picking the other three then it was the top two, but most of what everyone else mentions is on my list.

It's comforting to see the mid 20's members into Rock&Roll. It seemed when I was that age the younger crowd was into Rap.

Turning 39 in Aug.

Hey midlife, glad to find another fan.

"For I have dined on honey dew

And drunk the milk of paradise"

I found that in a sig on the tdi forums. Kind of puts the whole song in your head, doesn't it? :)
