Just curious to know how many mph you can run with a 3K kit. A thread that I read said that you could get to 120mph. That seems kind of high :confused: Of course it probably depends on what gears you're running. As you can see from my sig line, I'm running 4:10s. Any insight would be appreciated :)

BMoeller,

You are da MAN! You're on top of your stuff. That link was perfect.

This isn't really related to my thread, but would there be any benefit to going with a 4K kit? I've read that the Cummins engine starts coming apart at 4200 rpm. I don't mind being a little wild, but i try my best not to be downright stupid.

On a sidenote, an elderly lady knocked a big dent in the side of my bed this afternoon. I guess my truck must be invisible, because she ran right into it while I was pulling up to a stoplight. :-laf She accused me of going too fast. :-laf

Fortunately her insurance company faulted her and not me. I'm just hoping they cough up the dough, because if they don't it's going to delay my future bombing plans :{

Thanks again for all your help.

You're welcome. That is the calculator I like. Works great. :) Here is where I found it.

Unless you are going to build a sledpuller or race truck, I wouldn't bother with the 4K kit. 3k is plenty. Just running around, my truck doesn't usually see the RPMs over 2500, even though it can go higher. I still have the stock springs in my pump, but the 3k GSK is on the list.

Miles,

I'm running the 3K GSK, and absolutely LOVE it. Huge improvement over stock. I was in the mud over Christmas and leaned into it pretty good; it hit 3500 w/o missing a beat. Can't imagine 4K kit. Like bmoeller said, for us 'normal' guys, 3K is beyond what you'll probably use on a regualar basis. It's not common to go over 2500.

Bugger about the impact. I can relate, I got t-boned pretty hard recently. Mine didn't go as well w/ the insurance. They said it was legal for the other guy to have been in the bike lane as long as it was paved. Go figure, I thought bike lanes were for bikes. :(

Cheers,

Hvy

I have a 4k kit in my truck and have never seen over 3000 rpm. I went with the for the 4k because that's all Jannetty had in stock. Truck runs great. At 3,000 rpm I went about 95 mph on the GPS with 25585 tires (about 33").

Don't know and really don't want to. At 1700 in 5th over, 72 mph. Lots of room left. Will really pull strong from there also.

i also have 4:10's and have not felt the need to find top speed. i run at 75 around 2250 rpm, with 265 tires. I guess i could run around 90 to 95 and that's all she wrote. Before the GSK, top speed was foot to the floor at 85 down hill with another truck pushing me!!!!! LOL

BTW i wouldn't trade my 4:10's for the world. 20MPG is good 'nuff right ?

My top speed is 87. The reason I'm looking into the 3K kit is because I hate burning Powerjokes to 85 and then having them leave me behind. I guess because I'm young, my testosterone level is running just a little to high :-laf I also love my 4:10s. They get off the line quick and are awesome at starting a load.

i'm 24 so i'm not exactly old. Top speed will hurt you in more ways than 1. get caught going to fast, instant revocation of your license, speed kills (unless at the strip) i won't go into anything more. Just use your head.
