Yeah I'm curious about the gears the guy that said 115 has also? My truck is an '05 48re 4x4 Q/C with 3:73 rear gear set. With the Edge / Attitude turned all the way up, I can get to the governed top speed (108) where it feels like you've hit a brick wall. Also the truck is not red lined at that point either, so I know it's electronically limited. I think the real question is, what does one have to do to disable the governor so the truck will go past 108 mph? I have heard that with a scan tool and a dyno the truck will max out around 120 stock  but have not seen this personally and my source isn't the most credible.

I put on 295's, in theory, I should beable to run 111mph at the same RPM I did with the stocker 265 at the same RPM. But still stuck at 108.

heh, to much mass, Do you have any idea how much that "sports car" weights? for a "sports car" at 4100+#'s, it's rather heavy.

Stock, thoese things are a DOG.

Oh, I agree with you about those things being heavy too! I don't know about it being a dog though. Of course I was comparing it to my 1981 Chevy half ton!

That was my step-dad's car. I'm glad it wasn't mine, I would have wound up in jail! Every time I drove that thing it saw 130 mph!

Blow-off valve

Guess my fuel pressure was a little high and the blow-off valve went off. I'm well now. Tks for the prayers. :D

Yep, had an Audi TT 225hp roadster prior to this truck. 143mph for 2 miles once a week typicaly. There's this path I would take to work, 15 minutes of highway is typical. Once I cut it down to 8 minutes, yeah, my low speed never was under 100mph and it was 3pm mid week. :)

Not one ticket in 3 years of leasing the thing. I have more tickets with this truck. But they are 10mph over ones, and I was new to minneapolis, that's my excuse for that.

It would run a 14. 2 1/4, but my 60 foot times were 1. 6 :) That's faster then most of you guys boosting 20+ psi with autos :) Nothing like 4500rpm, drop the clutch and roast 4 tires in ANY car or truck.

I do miss the rush of stopping from 130+ to near zero in no time flat.

Just hang a big can of ether on it . That way you can blow her quicker and save a lot of time . Oo. :-laf :-laf

True, True, ...

However; not even redlined. Did a little test on open interstate running with an SS last night. It's acutally 110 max. Not even running hot -- was watching egt, boost, and fuel pressure. Not even working hard. Would like to get that extra 10 or 15 mph before redlining.

Hard on the brakes as soon as other traffic came in site btw; so please no lectures. ;)

These trucks are amazing simply amazing... travel 80 mph and put it to the floor you are in for a treat!!! I need another gear or two on top and the speed limiter taken off. I hit redline in no time and I am running 3. 73 rearend.

LOL, thats so true with my 35's!!!!

Imagine running a stock tire size, with a 7th gear. I would believe the 265 e range stockers would be rather stable above 140. But at these speed, real areodynamic modifications should start to be made.

If you want to go faster than your speed limiter turn the key to start. Your stock gauges will still work; however you will likely kill power to aftermarket gauges and fueling boxes. I know my edge shuts off after the speedo goes to 0. I do not know if the lift pump stays running because my FP gauge goes to 0 but I would assume it does because it doesn't miss or even slow down. I've got my attitude to say 115 MPH on the top speed with this technique. So if you want give it a try. Turn her to start and watch the speedo drop to zero then go as fast as you want. BTW this does not seem to work on the 06's. Also there seems to be no damage done to the 05's we have at work which are limited at 25 MPH for underground use.

Yeah I know that trick of turning the key... that is not my problem... I hit redline before I get any real speed, I need a way to keep revs low and speed high, another transmission or something.

I HAVE MORE THAN ENOUGH POWER TO RUN A SEVENTH GEAR, EVEN PULLING 12,000 LBS :D

The kind of torque we can make it's a little surprising they don't give us another (higher) gear to help with fuel economy numbers.

I would like to be able to run around 1600 RPM at 80 mph for when I am empty, I think our engines would be capable of that, anyones thoughts?

I don't think you'd like 1600 rpm at 80 MPH with these third gens. It would sound like it was lugged down all the time and egts would climb  . Now around 1900-2000 rpms would be sweet at 80  .

Next year guys. Your getting a 6 speed auto. Probably have at least two overdrives. Thats what the new 06 GM allison has now. The 6th gear is a higher overdrive for economy running empty, not towing.

You see you gotta go back to the original overdrives . They were intended for economy, not towing. Then we got so much torque we started towing in overdrive too. So it developed into being just another gear. Now with fuel prices and all there going for a economy gear again. Problem is the higher gear only is effective if your out on the freeway where you can run in it long enough to do good.

But it should give you the gearing needed for 120MPH at redline. HAHA

It was mentioned here that someone could get 108 with stock tires , and oversize tires didn't help , still 108. Well you probably were going faster but the speedo is being taken off the drivetrain someplace, which wasn't turning faster.

120 is good but I think some of the stock 2nd Gens have got that or close if I remember correctly. Imagine a gear we couldnt shift into until 95 or 100, that thing would get us moving.

You could probably put on a second overdrive box behind the transmission or T-case. Used to do that with the old willys vehicles, 5. 38 or something gears with a T-18 3 speed = 36 miles an hour wound out. The only problem would be finding a unit that would bolt up and be rugged enough.

Dave

What gets me is that when I do hit it at freeway speed is how hard it pulls, and pulls and pulls all the way up to about 110, where the limiter cut in, which was also 3100rpm, I have 4. 10 gears. It never seems to fall off until redline. Found that out a few weeks ago out on Hwy 58 west of Mojave in the desert. :-laf

When I was young and stupid, I did 160 mph without regard to mechanical malfunction, tires that can blow, or animals or machines that could get on the road in front of me. Now that I'm MUCH older and a LITTLE less stupid, I'll keep my better than three ton machine and its expensive fuel at 70 and below and hope that NONE of you speed-crazed younguns are doing anywhere NEAR a hunnert anywhere near ME!
