Because we have to share the same roads with you. (NM)

Why would anyone read a thread on Top Speed and then make negative comments about people and their input on the subject of Top Speed?? Huh!!! I bet you guys are anti sex and then pick Playboy and are incensed!!! Give me a break. You have zero idea of the circumstances surrounding at least my run which qualified my statement about a high speed run. Imagine that,... a comment about high speed/top speed on a Top Speed thread. Geez! Just for the heck of it rather than assuming we/me are idiots and running a 100 plus down a crowded highway,... how about the real circumstance, in my case with a dual lane 2 mile straight stretch with no one on the road but me at 5am. If I have a problem in that run it is just that,... MY problem, and for danged sure not yours. I'm nuts,... your nuts! Do us all a favor and stay off threads that all you can bring to the party is negative comments. Don't you realize that ANYONE who has dragged their truck (if modded) has gone over 100mph???!!! Ok, I'm done. :-{}

What gets me is that when I do hit it at freeway speed is how hard it pulls, and pulls and pulls all the way up to about 110, where the limiter cut in, which was also 3100rpm, I have 4. 10 gears. It never seems to fall off until redline. Found that out a few weeks ago out on Hwy 58 west of Mojave in the desert. :-laf

Just trade that 4. 10 off for somebodys 3. 55 that was stock in the 2nd gen. and go to camping world get a gear vender stuck in there and you got your gearing .

When I was young and stupid, I did 160 mph without regard to mechanical malfunction, tires that can blow, or animals or machines that could get on the road in front of me. Now that I'm MUCH older and a LITTLE less stupid, I'll keep my better than three ton machine and its expensive fuel at 70 and below and hope that NONE of you speed-crazed younguns are doing anywhere NEAR a hunnert anywhere near ME!

:-laf

When I was younger.....

429 Thunderjet Police Pursuit Model. Holley Double Pumper. Edelbrock high flow intake.

20 minutes later when the cops I passed caught me (going the same direction as me on pretty empty interstate about 2am between Denver and Cheyenne), their guns drawn, my hands on the roof, (I'd been doing the speed limit for about 19 minutes... )... .

"we turned on the radar but you were already out of range"

Speedo pegged at 140 and that was WAY before max speed was reached!

Thank GOD no deer jumped in the road.

Or tires went flat.

etc etc

:eek:

The roads were a lot emptier back then.

I have the 3. 73 in mine but that might not be a bad idea to look into a 2nd gen with a 3. 54 and swapping it for my 3. 73 and a over drive. I agree with all of the safety aspects of this discussion. Going fast with equipment not designed to do it is dumb. I wouldnt do it unless I had everything upgraded where it is designed to handle it, I know you might just say a 7K lb diesel truck is not designed in any way to do that kind of speed, but it would only be done in an enviroment where I would be the only person to loss. I feel these trucks are pretty tough and i am curious as what the speed could be, not what they let us do. To be honest IMHO 100 is not fast. I know lots of us who have fast cars, and lots who dont, but in the right condition I think we should be able to let them run. Look at certain European and African countries... They move!!!! like lets cruise at 120-130 mph. I think it is safe if the conditions permit. I just really want to know what these trucks could do for top end if we didnt hit a speed limiter or redline.
