I am considering buying a Topper/Canopy/Cap. I've looked at Leer, Glasstite, Americraft (local brand), Raider, and Century. The closest Snugtop dealer is about 180 miles from here but I will be up that way either this week or next. Everyone seems to feel that the Snugtop is first rate although a bit pricey. The Century Ultra (cab high) with sliding side windows is the top that I'm leaning toward right now. The dealer quoted me $1365 for the top, a full Bedrug installed and tax. The price seems good and the quality seems to be as good or better than some of the other brands I've looked at. This will be the first cap I have ever owned and I have visions of maybe sleeping in it a couple times a year on a short camping trip. Has anybody had any experience with the Century (good or bad) or have any suggestions? Another thing that appeals to me is going with the clamps rather than the drilling but I've read on here that some people have problems with the top sliding around and always having to adjust the clamps.

Sorry to be so long winded... Any and all suggestions welcome.

The choice is yours, all the brands you mention are good, just go for the style you like. Spring the extra bucks for the clamps and a high quality seal. I just removed my Raider canopy after over a year, clamps hadn't budged after many miles of rough dirt roads. I only retightened them once after the top had been on for a week. I like my Raider, perfect color match, very high quality with a great warranty that I've never had to use in five years.

I would for one definetly stay away from leer. I had mine crack and to get it fixed was a major pain. Personally, I like Snugtop. I had one of their tops on my old Chevy and the fit and quality is excellent. I just purchased one of their Snuglid for my wife's truck and the fit and quality is all there. The color matched up perfectly! There some nice tops out there but with my experience with leer... ..... Well, let me just say this my top went to them four times and 6 months later it still wasn't repaired right. After I threaten them with a lawyer they finally just gave me my money back. Now. I am fixing to order another Snugtop.

I am in no way affiliated with Snugtop. Just a well satisfied customer.

When you look at Snugtop check out the Super Sport. I really like mine, but you're right about "pricey". I

Whatever you choose, if they offer a drop-down front window get it if you care anything about easy access to your windows for cleaning..... they do get quite dirty, quickly. Snugtop drop down is really quality.

Around here the Bedrug is ~$350+ installed, so your Century deal sounds very attractive. I think mactruck has a Century.

Be aware..... two dealers have told me the Bedrug doesn't install well over a spray-on bedliner, like Line-x..... adhesion problems. Don't see one in your sig but just wanted you to know.

Edit... . forgot... . the J-clamp system on the Snugtop is excellent. No worries.

I have a 01 Raven topper for sale for 94-02 SWB - It is maroon and in excellent condition. It has dual locks , front slider, side windows w/screens and carpet head liner ( tinted windows), 12v interior light. Comes with 6 clamps and rubber weather strip for bed. (that never needs to be replaced). .

This topper cost $1000+. I'm asking $675 and would even drive a couple hours to deliver. You can easily have it painted to match for less than $200.

i have heard nothing but BAD about LEER. Mactruck has a century, and i have looked at the Jeracho and the A. R. E. don't know which of those i'd go woith if it were me... ... .

LEER

I wouldn't give a Leer to someone I didn't like. I had one it totally break up in under 2 years. All 4 front corners broke around the window and the top corners broke from the cab of the truck back 5 feet along the roofline. They did cast me a new one, though, but it took 4 months to get it.

Shovelhead... that is a good lookin' truck... Almost as goodlookin' as mine ;)

AFacey... I appreciate the offer and had considered the used route but have decided to go with a new cap.

Well... I had just about made up my mind on a Century cap but then saw an Astro cap that had a couple of features I liked better and that Century did not offer. Has anybody had any experience with the Astro? Snugtop is no longer in my decision process as the nearest dealer is about 200 miles away. I really appreciate everyone's input. Sorry about originally posting this in the wrong category. :(

I paid $1600 for a Snug Top piece of sh-t. The paint flacked off and it leaks water big time. The dealer that I got it from sucks. He has minimum wage kids working there and charges $60 an hour for service. I had a Lear on my 92 CTD an had no problems

Toppers

I have a snug top and have had nothing but trouble with it. The factory support is worst than the problems. The dealer is doing everything they can but they aren't getting any support from the factory either. Numerous calls to their customer service department have gone unanswered. I can't even get them on the phone to get nasty with them??? The top had to be repainted, the windows leak and the plastic lip at the bottom of the rear window keeps cracking. I think lear would be a better choice between the two.
