This was talked about a little a while back but I thought I'd mention it after an experience with a dealer. Every time I fuel up, even using the car nozzle, I can get about 5 more gallons in by letting the foam come up in the neck, letting it settle and pumping more. This process takes 10 or so minutes. It fuels fine until the pump clicks off.

Anyway, I stopped at a dealer to see if they had any complaints about this. Diesel mechanic happened to be at the service desk. They said they had not heard of it but it might have something to do with the cat converter and charcoal canister. I said this is diesel, not gas. They said it was part of the emissions on the '03 diesels. Told them I had a real problem - I must be missing some parts 'cuz I can't find these parts on my truck. I left. Will have to try this at other dealers and see what happens.

a charcoal canister and a cat on the 03', thats a great one. i wish there was something you could do about idiots we find like that. and as to your question about filling the neck up, i have been doing that on my 01 for 127k and have never missed a beat:D

Does anyone have this happen??

When my trip Computer says "0" miles left, I can only get in 28 gallons of fuel. If I drive it for another day, then I get 31 gallons in it.

Does anyone else have this mis-calibration problem.

My 2001 was , for the most part, right on... I could put in 32 gallons when it was at 0 miles left.

These are 35 gallons tanks on the '03's aren't they?

They give you an extra "reserve" area so you do not run out of fuel. . that is too bad of a thing to do in diesels, I saw the issues my mechanic friend went thru bleeding the system after putting the injectors in my 2000

Twice now when my trip computer has shown "0" miles , the nozzle clicked off around 29 gallons. With patience on my part I squeezed in 8- 10 gallins more!! Also on one of those tanks I went 75 more miles before filling back up!!! So upwards of 39 gallon capacity on these new trucks??

Only 90 gallons??!! If you want more than 90 gallons after the light comes on, go to your 5 star Dodge dealer to have the fuel gauge sender unit replaced. After doing this, for only $180, I discovered I could put an unlimited amount of fuel in the tank, as the mechanic had not reconnected the filler tube to the tank. I just needed a new pair of shoes and socks to replace the ones soaked from standing in a pool of diesel at the truckstop. Nick.

The 5 or 6 gallons left in the tank when your on empty is to cool the high pressure pump or injector pump on prev models. If your ever on the highway for an hour or 2 and reach under and touch the fuel tank you'll find it's very warm.

The problem is that there is NO excess in the tank. If my gauge huggs "E" (no Low Fuel light either), I will pump 28-29 gallons without topping off. After topping off I will have pumped 32-33 gallons. This tells me my gauge is dead on if I top off. If I don't top off I only have a 30 gallon tank and 100 miles less range. The problem is that it takes me 10-15 minutes to get that last 5 or so gallons in to top off. My '99 only took a gallon or so to top off.

I tried to top mine off on the last fillup and stood there for about 30 seconds between top off attempts. I never got more than a gallon more in the tank. Maybe I'm not patient enough?

I have pumped over 37 gallons in at one time and didn't keep topping off until I could see it in the neck. I can always get at least 5 gallons more in after the auto pumper shuts it off, more if I were more patient.
