I've stumbled upon a 2001 truck that has been burned (most likely arson). I know the 24V's are not as simple electronically speaking as the 12V's, and want to know how much of the engine control stuff is in the cab on the 2nd gens. The engine compartment looks fine all the harnesses are in tack and not melted, the paint on the fire wall is not boiled from heat, etc... The cab on the other hand is a total loss nothing survived except metal so any wiring or computer in the cab is not salvagable. I would like to get it running if possible and then look at rebuilding is that even possible?

Thanks

Dave

The only thing in the cab is the ignition switch and the instrument cluster (which is connected to the ECM). It's possible to run the Cummins in standalone mode (without ECM) but you still need to power the engine and starter. Check out Blue Chip Diesel's VP44 Diagnostics. The section NO START - ELECTRICAL TEST describes how to run the engine by itself. It will only idle but what more do you need?

thanks for the input, now I have a plan. If this thing runs I may have to find a cab for it and rebuild the thing.

Or you'll at least have a good excuse to do something cool. I've always thought a 70's vintage Ford crewcab or something along those lines would be awesome to have on a chassis like that.
