The other day my friends 05 auto started chirping. From the front of the motor. It got a little worse and another strange sound started as well. It ended up that the serpentine belt had somehow managed to strip itself of one rib? It was flopping around so my friend cut the excess off. So the question is what would cause it to do this? He seems to think the belt is a result of whatever is chirping. Has anybody else experienced anything like this? Any ideas?

There was some talk of some trucks having maligned alternator (?) pulleys causing the belt to jump a rib.

Bloomy: Do not waste time in replacing that belt. A damaged belt will break in short order. Been there... done that. Afterwards I was picking out pieces of serpentine belt from the underhood area for a year afterward. If it goes, it could damage items under the hood. Find the reason for the damaged belt... fix it... and replace the belt immediately.

THanks for the links, Ryan, I was just about to do that myself.

Many shredded belt threads here. Still no "official" TSB, though.

After my second post my intelligence came back and I remembered the search option. Thanks for the links. I did happen to read all of them during the search. That was the one question I had was on the status on a TSB. Thanks guys.
