Okay so last month I put the SBC DD in. Last night the wife says hey what all the red liquid under your truck its been leaking for a couple days

I go out and sure enough ATF fluid coming from the top of the transmission dripping down both sides so I pulled the plastic crap off today and reveled what you see in the photo

I believe I ripped the boot when I pulled the transmission but thought nothing of it, thought it was just a dust boot but as you can see ATF is making its way out.

I went to the local Dodge dealer this afternoon and they gave me a part number of 5191985AA told me it was national back order and listed no release date

Any body know were I can get one of these? even used but in good shape would be nice.

Thanks all,

BBD

Can't tell you where to get a replacement, but I thought I'd suggest using some silicone RTV as a temporary repair to yours.

Should easily retain the fluid yet be flexible enough to move as you shift. Carefully degrease the boot before applying.

Jeez, that sucks Scott. What a weird design. Guess I will be extra careful come the day I put my DD in the new truck. I would say RTV it for now until you find another boot... .

Does this mean you won't be making it to Ukiah??

Joe

No way dude, I will be in Ukiah for sure. I duct taped it and wrapped and old work shirt around it for now, seems to be working :-laf

See ya Saturday Joe

normally i take the shift tower off before dropping the g56 transmissions. that way you avoid ripping that. i will check in the morning to see if its really on backorder or was the dealer just playing dumb. im sure i can get it for you. i had to get one for mine the first time i swapped clutches at 11,000 miles.

I was weened on the SBC DD years ago in the BBD and got real used to it, and I wanted to get rid of the spongyness of the dual mass flywheel. Its all good now :D

BBD

Mark, it's a 2006 G56

Robert please do, and let me know as I don't see the dealer getting it anytime quick. Thanks

BBD

well they werent lieing. that thing is on some wierd backorder. im sure i could have it inside of a week. but there is one dealer in PA that has one in stock. i could get there number for you if you want it shipped to you.

Robert good deal, yeah please shoot me there number I will see what shipping costs.

Must be a lot of idiots like myself ripping them or they didn't manufacture enough :D

Thanks,

wow if you really wanna hear another one of my experiences. I was changing rear rotors and when I pulled the hub off the spindle the threads on the spindle tore the hub seal. I hunted around for seal for few days and needed my truck so I carefully cut away the torn part so it wont raise the other parts of the seal potentially and used black silicon (RTV w/e) and havent had a leak in 10k miles. when I was working at a 4wd shop we automatically did the same thing on the jeep grand cherokees with the tapered wheel bearing (similar to 9" style) on one of those rearends.

Okay I got a call from the dealer today, he said it was in so I drove down there and that is in deed the correct part #5191985AA it cost $26. 00 + $2. 08 in tax out the door $28. 08. So if your stupid enough to rip your boot like I did, its a $28. 08 mistake take the shift tower off and save the monies :D

It's a tight press on fit is all
