Just curious if anybody out there has used a factory O/D off button for torque converter lock up. I purchased a spare in hopes of making this work because I thought it would look clean but cant seem to figure it out. I can only get the switch to operate momentarilly. My truck is a 96 2500 4x4. Thanks in advance.

You hit the nail on the head there bud. The OD switch is a momnetary and will not latch.

If it's like my 96, I took an old school computer power switch (double pole, single throw) and epoxied it to the back of the knockout next to the OD switch. Looks like factory, but one push in- lockup... . one more push, it pops back out.

When I was trying what you are, I looked for a latching relay. I never found it, but i'm sure they exist.

Thats what I figured. Had to try. I tried a regular switch and still can't get it to lock up. I cut the B-11 wire ( oarnge / black wire ) before seeing the instruction next to the diagram theat reads -DO NOT CUT, so I could use solder and shrink tube. It came out nice. Oops... My truck was manufactured sometime in 6 -1996, I wonder if i might need a computer reflash as is stated in the instructions that some trucks 9/95 to 4/96 might need.

I used the '98 and up switch in the end of the automatic shift lever, also a momentary contact. I hooked it up to turn on a relay that looped back and keeps itself powered (on). But to kill the relay power when stopping I wired a normally closed switch in line with the relay that has a lever near the throttle pedal that only makes contact (opens) when the throttle pedal is at idle. As soon as you step on the pedal the switch isn't touching it and electrical contact is made. Push the momentary contact button and the relay is powered which, in turn keeps itself on.

When I take my foot off the throttle (or tap the brake to cancel the cruise) the throttle pedal goes back to the idle position and breaks the circuit for the relay which releases the T/C lock-up.

An old fashioned floor dimmer switch will work fine. Your left foot has nothing to do anyway. You have to install an indicator light to keep track of the state the switch is in.

still no luck getting the converter to lock up manually. I have double checked everthing i did and with the exception of cutting the oarnge / black wire i am positive everything is correct. I am now contemplating having the computer reflashed even though the manufacture date is after the stated 4/96. Any other ideas guys... Thanks a bunch for all the helpful switch tips.

Yeah, each of the 3 harnesses there will have the orange and black wire. One on the if an indicator lamp in the dash (don't ask how I know)

Did you remove the trans relay and jump it?

My truck had to have the flash. I still have the flash number somewhere.

It should go into limp mode and jump like a mule if you need the flash. Mine would jump immediately into 2nd gear and not reset until the key was cycled.

If you haven't repaired the wire, you can run it to a double throw switch so that you can run normally, run locked, or force the TCC to stay unlocked (good if you are pulling heavy and the TCC is trying to slip, or other strenuous work)
