hi, guys when i`m travelling at apx 110 kilometers and i hit a road bump my RPM guage shoots up and i can hear the cummins rev up but the truck doesn`t speed up,i guess my torque converter is slipping huh,i smell money ha ha ha ha is there any adjustment on a torque? if i must buy a new one which is best for the price? thanks

Do a search for "brake light switch". I haven't had the problem myself but I've read plenty of posts where the brake light switch is too close and hitting a bump will cause the switch to make contact which will unlock the torque converter.

Brake light switch should be adjustalbe. If that is not your problem and the torque converter is, go with an after market one from one of the major after market Trans places.

grant was talking about a chafed wire, spot like a short/ground issue that effects TQ(my truck is newer but read simlar posts and the fix)

I seriously doubt that the converter is at fault of it's unlocking over a bump. I bet if you put a multimeter on it you will see that the PCM is unlocking it. If it is, it may be the brake switch input, as others have suggested, or maybe even a TPS. A scanner woud be pretty helpful if you could get your hands on one.

Yep. If that is actually the problem it'll be a lot cheaper than a new TC (free) and worth a shot.

i tried hooking a bungy cord on my brake pedal and holding it up with my boot ,but the torque still slips or disenguages when i hit a bump ! if the torque is at fault would it act this way ?is there clutch packs inside that could be slipping cause they are worn out?

Hi Gregg,

I suppose it's possible, but so is winning the lottery. The chances of it a SO remote, don't bother considering it for now. There are a lot of other possibilities. Do you have any diagnostic tools at all? A multimeter? A scanner, or access to one?

I bet a good transmission shop, or even an experienced Tech could diagnose it quickly, so take it to a repair shop before you consider taking the trans out.
