I was servicing the transmission when I decided to pull the converter cover off and take a look inside. well when I looked in I found that the converter is blue (with a few greasy fingerprints). I was wondering if any ideas whose converters are painted blue. bought the truck used three years ago, and could tell the transmission had been took out,but I haven't had any trouble with it,and I pull a 26' gooseneck horse trailer. Just curious what converter it might be.

Another way is to see how much the rpm drop in OD when the conv. clutch applies. DTT has the tightest. 100- 200 rpm.

Also should qualify it, this is with no trailer and a steady speed to slightly increasing speed.

What color are the OEM convertors? IIRC, mine is blue. Been a while since I looked though. Pretty sure mine is the stock one.

OE converters are not painted. There are a number of companies that paint their converters different shades of blue. All DTT converters have drain plugs. As mentioned above, a DTT converter will have only a small rpm drop into lock up, and pull like

he** in fluid coupling. :)

After driving a simular truck mine seems to be closer to a stock converter a far a fluid coupling goes, but lockup seems a lot more solid. a pretty fast takeoff not wot lockup at 60 I have a 400 rpm drop. Oo.

Hmmmm, I'll have to look again. Sure feels like a stocker. Sloppy POS. Maybe it got replaced, but was painted before the install. I'm 3rd owner, so who knows.

If my memory is any good, the Precision brand is painted blue.

They are a little lower than stock stall but a far cry from a good one-DTT.
