Just noticed that my TC doesnt seem to be locking up... although i can't really seem to notice a loss of power. I know it's an aftermarket TC, but thats all i know about it. Stock transmission. Used to hit rocketship mode no problem, now i can't feel lockup at all in O/D or with it off. Any ideas folks??

i wouldnt really say its slow going into 4th... i was scratching my head when i was noticed it. I turned off OD so i could get lockup blowing past the stang that was cruising beside me. I couldnt feel it lock up, but i was still hauling ***

Solenoids for both the TC and OD are mounted on the transmission valve body inside the transmission. You have to pull the pan to see them.

They can be checked for continuity without removing the pan but you still don't know if the valve is operating.

I believe the 96 has a relay in the PDC that is in the TC circuit. It has to be by-passed to allow use of the Mystery Switch so it may be part of your problem. Ridesamule may be able to tell you more about that.

Ok, went to the transmission shop today, he hooked up his snap on thingy, went for a drive, and said the comp was calling for lockup. However, on a whim, i checked the codes with a key, and got a

37 Open or short in the Torque converter clutch solenoid CKT circuit or
Voltage high or low at transmission Temperature sensor

Whats goin on here?? Trany guy said it was probably a broken plate of some sort on my valve body, said he just did one on a 2nd gen dually, and even showed me what he was talking about?? Any thoughts here folks? I Miss my TC :{

Can someone help me find this circuit so i can follow it back and check my wires? I cant find a wiring diagram

You can eliminate the temperature sensor by unplugging the cable at the sensor, get a resistor, anything between 1000 to 5000 ohms will work,

bend the resistor into a U shape and insert it into the connector on the end of the cable. Tape it in place and do a trial run.

If that doesn't make any difference then a test of TC solenoid and associated wiring is next.

Be aware that there is a relay in the PDC that controls the 12 volt feed to the transmission for the OD and TC circuits. Since the OD is working, I would assume that the relay is working.

There could be a problem in the control wire between the PCM and the transmission. If you have a manual, you can find the PCM pin number and color code for that wire and check for continuity.

Have you investigated a lockup switch at all? Mine made a -world- of difference in the lockup situation on my truck.

Is your TC built up? If its stock or stock friction and you're runnin higher HP, your TC could be burnt up, and your failure could be due to a plugged filter/etc. . Hows the fluid look?

definetly check out the mystery lockup switch, its great

Yes, I put a lockup switch in and it will stay in lockup except it will then down shift from 4th to 3rd back and forth instead of locking and unlocking. transmission is DTT and so is TC. I have also faked out the temp sensor and the tps.
