I hava a 92 d250 and I want to replace the stock converter with one that will put more power on the ground without emptying my wallet. My pump is turned up. Ihave a 16cm turbinr housing, and 4"exhaust. 213K. I am looking for suggestions from experience. Is it a good idea to modify trans valving as well? I do only occasionally tow. It is a daily driver with normally about 1000lbs of steel in the bed. thanks

Hello Silaskarl,

You should give Bill Kondolay a call. I think you'll have all your questions answered and he'll probly mention some you haven even thought of yet.
From what I've read/learned here converter and VB are best done together as one is tuned to the other, but Bill would be the best source on this. His web site is DTT = Diesel Transmission Technology. Just do search on here for DTT or Bill Kondolay

WELL, I have checked out Bill's website several times in the past, and just looked again - but all *I* see mentioned are transmission parts from '94 and later Dodges...

Has ANYONE here used any of Bill's *production* TC's or "tweaked" trannies in the FIRST generation ('89-early '91) trucks?

Sure would like some FIRST-HAND performance and pricing info from a CUSTOMER in regards to a lower stall TC and beefed 727 transmission...

I've just completed the first 1,000 miles after implementing Bill K's solution.
I bought the NEW A518 locally, sent Bill the Valve Body, and got back the 80# modified valve body and matching DTT Torque Converter.
Local shop handled install with no problems.
. .
What a difference! This 6,000# beast now MOVES!!
I haven't found a dyno yet, nor a track. Informal timing shows 0-60 in around 10sec, before it was most of the week.
MPG went up, best estimate is around 0. 5 to 1 mpg.
. .
Best **** thing I could ever do for the truck. Not cheap, mind you, but I'm keeping this animal for a while and it has to pull.
. .
Email me if you have questions... .

AHHhhh - but you guys don't understand - *I* have an EARLY '91, with the 727 *3-speed, non O/D transmission*! The A518 WITH O/D came out in mid-'91, and those of us with '89-early '91 trucks have a DIFFERENT transmission! TRUE, the difference is primarily the added O/D unit, but pretty sure there are a few others of significance as well - if not, and the mods and upgrades applicable to the A518 ARE also available to the older plain 727, perhaps someone (Bill?) will straighten me out... #ad

But that lockup converter would still be nice, in any case... #ad

BILL - feel free to contact me DIRECTLY via Email with any info you think might fit my situation - keep in mind the mods already in effect in my sig, and the fact I frequently am pulling 8000 lbs of 5th wheel up long 7% grades - and will probably be adding MORE power to the mix once the transmission is beefed up a bit...

An RV trip up to Canada would be nice this season... #ad

Thanks!

Thanks Dan - I keep hoping Bill will pop into this, or the OTHER TC thread currently in progress! Fact IS, I would prefer to stick with my 727 transmission - it was the later OD equipped trannies that started all the failures Dodges have become so "famous" for - and the original 727 is pretty well noted for its longevity and brute strength. Besides, I already have the US Gear OD unit installed, and it provides even better strength and flexibility that the factory units...

SOooo - for ME, the 727, with a lower stall speed lockup converter would be ideal!

HEY BILL, where ARE you? #ad
