Here's the situation, a friend of mine owes me some $, but rather than fork over all the $, he's willing to build me a heavy duty low stall t/c with billet cover. He owns a t/c shop, but all they do is build them, not install them. They build mostly for race cars, but he says they build them all the time for diesel trucks and an upgrade to the valve body is not necessary, but recommends a shift kit to help with overlap. He says I'll be very happy with the improvement over stock. Being that I'm not a transmission expert by a long shot, anyone think I should jump on this. All I plan to run is an EZ and some 275's. He stated the t/c are rated to hold 850ft with stock configurations. What should I do?

My 2¢ worth.......

While anything is an improvement over stock there are a lot of things to be looked at to have a strong transmission.

Most after market manufacturers address more than one issue within the trans. Simply changing one component will directly effect others. Like a chain the weakest link will be what fails.

I'm no transmission guru but it seems to me that if you increased the power the TC is applying the clutch packs will suffer without any additional help. Overlap, leakage and various other aspects of mofifying these transmission's has been discussed ad nauseum in the various transmission war threads.

Call the proffesionals. They should be able to steer you right.

No transmission expert here but adding all kinds of stuff to the transmission is over kill if your not planing on serious HP and beleive me an EZ and 275 injectors is far from serious HP. Your transmission and an upgraded TC along with a shift kit will help your transmission run longer than you will probably own your truck. There are guys running stock transmissions with just a tc and shift kit upgrade with many miles on their trucks and more power upgrades than you plan. There are even guys with just stock transmissions and running more power than you plan with just a stock transmission (you just have to learn to drive more conservative) the problem is when it will fail not if it will.

Was just curious, what company or companies does this guy build TC's for.
