June 2009 - Diesel Cheaper than Gas

Goerend Trans

God, I wish our country would ever just convert to the metric system like just about all the rest of the world uses! It is SO much simpler. No damn fractions, easy to multiply and divide and internationally known. We are slowly heading that direction, but this "transition" stage sure sucks! Got to have twice as many sockets and wrenches and pull them ALL out to work on a piece of "American" (brand) equipment. At least I can just grab the metric tools to work on a Japanese, Korean or European piece of equipment.

Our money system is metric (increments of 100, 10, 1), our electrical system is metric (watts and ohms), so why can't we measure an engine's power in Kw and Kg/cm like the rest of the world? After all, its displacement is in Liters and CC, where 1000cc equals 1 liter of displacement. Also, for temperature, the Celsius scale is based on the freezing (0C) and boiling (100C) point of water. Can't get any simpler than the metric system. I love it, but it is hard to explain to people who don't take the time to understand it.
