real quick guys,

Just put a new track bar on my truck and tightened the hell out of the bolt that mounts it to the front axle. It still clunks (slides in its hole) when I turn all the way to one side. Do I need lock tight and a bigger wrench or what?

thanks, Nick

AHA You did not go tight enough! I usually with a 1/2 inch breaker bar do a military press or leg lift with my feet against the drivers side framerail. Last week I finaly got one really tight when I twisted the 1/2 inch breaker bar :-laf

Track bar torque - axle end

Service manual torque spec for 2001 track bar at the axle end is 130 ft-lbs.

Hope this helps,

John

Check to see if the mounting plate on the axle end has the hole elongated. Some guys have had this and no matter how tight, the hole is just plain worn out and it will move / clunk. Tightening the heck out of it seems to work for awhile. Not sure what they did for a long-term fix though.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, the hole didn't look too bad when I pulled it apart (not that I would remember :) )

I just torqued the **** out of it and it hasn't clunked yet so I have my fingers crossed.

go go gadget 'makeshift breaker bar' :-laf
