Torque plate adjustments?

Just installed a #6 TST plate (in the same position as the stock plate). I'm not seeing any smoke, but I'm also not seeing any significant new power. I realize that I can now play with the star-wheel, plate position, and AFC position to get more go... my question to y'all is, which of these three do I start with? I'd like to avoid smoke as much as possible (OK, OK, I guess I'm a tree-hugger or something). So, to max the power without smoking, in what order do I start doing adjustments? How many? How much? Thanks!

when i first started i had the plate in the stock position. the first thing i did was pushed the plate foward a little. when i reinstalled the afc housing i pushed it full foward. then i went for a drive. it takes a few times to get it right where you want it. after i had the plate in the spot i wanted it then i adjusted the star wheel till there was just a little play in the spring. then the bombing bug hit and it all went down hill from there.

If you ain't makin' smoke you ain't makin' power. :D

True story... I had a #6 in my 95 - didn't do anything till I turned the star wheel all the way forward, smoke was not bad unless my foot was all the way in the floor, then took off like OMG at 1700 to 1800 RPM... Try the star wheel first. Guy
