Ok, this is my first post on here at TDR, and I couldn't ask a dumber question, but could someone enlighten me as to where the torque plate is and if I should adjust it forward? I understand what it does from reading the posts and I am very mechanically inclined, but don't want to try and adjust it blindly. The only thing I have done is a K&N filter. The main reason I want more power is for pulling trailers. I pull a 24 foot enclosed trailer, loaded with motocross crap, lots of water and anything else I can get into it. I also want you all to know this is a awsome web-site and you guys are going to make me spend some money on Bombing... . my wife is going to kill me. Oh Yeah what guages should I start with since monitoring vitals helps your motor live longer. I would like to go with pillar mount, any reccomendations on brand?

Thanks

The cheapest plate I have found new is on enterpriseengine.com, for 175 bucks. I got my boost and transmission guage from TSTproducts.com, and my pyro from Ebay. Check the links, and shop around, you will be surprised at what you can find.

There are good deals on genuine TST plates too. They are very much precision made and hardened to prevent wear. I have dyno tested all of the TST plates and they give as much or more than advertised, and at the wheels.

TST plates are great, talk to Joe D. on the proper application for your needs.

Gauges - Boost, EGT - preferebly pre-turbo and if your truck is an automatic, an auto trans temp gauge. There are a lot of brands and styles available, it is all in what you want, like and can afford, digital, non-digital, black face, white face, etc. I have Isspro, good gauges but the back lighting at night is poor, Auto Meter are pretty trick looking and they also have a great reputation.

I just installed the auto meter pro comp from genos in the a pillar I am very pleased with what I was given for my money and I am so glad to have gauges now. they will give you alot of insight as to what your motor does when you work it. and I am not 100% sure I am stock bought used but I can make the 1200 egt range preturbo pretty fast. I have clamped the wastegate line shut. I say get some gauges and then play with the other options but establish a baseline with you gages first. just my opinion on the best way to play safe:D

If your ever in the Columbus, In. area, stop in to TST. I did on my way down to the Louisville, Ky BIG truck show. I'm glad I did! they found my throttle linkage wasn't giving me all it could. They corrected it with ease. Its a nice place to visit!

Thanks for the Info!!

Thanks for all the info! Decided to go with autometer guages (pre turbo egt, boost and auto trans temp) on the pillar from Gino's so that I can establish a baseline on what my truck does towing. Then I belive I will go with A different Tourqu plate from TST. Any recomendations on which plate #? Also, how do I clamp the wastegate shut?? What are the advantages. Thanks again guys. Oh yeah, its about time for a exhaust, again any recomendations?

Steve,

What you will shortly find out, is that when you BOMB, it usually leads you to do other things. i. e. You added the power via a cam plate... . this will lead you to upgrading your auto transmission, then you'll add more power and will have to do other things to keep egt's cool.

Check out my signature, I have found this combo to be an excellent set-up, the next BOMB I will be doing, is to eliminate the cat and add a free flowing muffler.

No, its not the highest hp/torque combo, but it works for me. The TST #8 230/605 (moved slightly fwd is just about the equivalent of a TST #6 250/635) add the 215's and you have a really good performing set-up..... of course, you need the DTT transmission upgrades to get this power to the ground:D

If you want to go to the next level... bigger plate, bigger delivery valves, bigger injectors and possible pump mods, you will definetly need to do things like add a different turbo, bigger exhaust housing, different manifold or some combo of the above to maintain acceptable egt's.

I like to upgrade in steps, rather than having it all done at once, this gives you the ability to assess the performance of each new BOMB. Hope this helps - The BOMBing road can become confusing at times:eek:

One more thing - I don't think it is wise to clamp the wastegate shut, at least with the particular set-up I have. This is just my opinion and I am sure others will disagree. Do your homework/research, ask a lot of questions of us on the TDR boards, talk to the different vendors and it all becomes pretty clear on which way to go based on your needs.

Steve,

If you go with the TST plate you won't have to clamp the hose going to the wastegate, the TST kit comes with a new boost elbow to regulate the wastegate.

As far as what plate, TST could tell you best. Especially since none of us know what you've got for a truck. :)
