Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) torque plate question

will a #5 plate out of a 98 work in my 94 which has a #5 250/635 installed in it now ?

just curious as to why the 98 #5 is rated 275/??? and my #5 in my 94 is 250/635

'94 trucks were 160 or 180hp (manual).

'98 trucks were 180 or 215hp (manual).



The plates are all completely interchangeable, but how they affect each pump's fueling characteristics is considerably different.



The higher hp rated pumps obviously put out more fuel... . so a less aggressive plate will make more power (or the same power) than a more aggressive plate on a lower hp rated pump.

Yes ... it will work ... the difference is in the fueling - you 98 fuels more than your 94 ...

ok,,correct me if i'm wrong,,the #5 in my buddies 98 is the "exact" same plate as the #5 in my 94 and no gains will be made using his plate in my 94. his is just rated 275hp verses mine at 250hp due to the higher hp pump.

the deal was,, he went to a 0 plate and he would switch me plates for a little hp gain in my 94. it's was a" freebie",,worth a try!!

Grind your #5, or your original plate if you want to see some gains... . injectors and injector pump tweaks work too.

How much should be ground on the #5 plate and is the bevel what needs to be ground? Is the #0 plate a flat plate? How does a #4 plate compare to a #5 plate, are they similar in design?

thanks for the info.

i wasn't lookin for a whole lot of hp to be added,,just figured 25 more wouldn't hurt it. this truck has 225k on it and a bone stock transmission that hasn't left me down yet,,,yea ,,i'm knockin on wood



all the good stuff goes in the 01 and then just sits in the garage for some reason
