Ok well I was fixing an inncident tonight where I thought I had stripped some threads on the AFC housing. Well why I had the housing off I thought I would mark, then slide the factory plate full forward. Well I couldn't budge the factory screws! I had my dad try and he couldn't even budge them. Matter of fact- he was taking little bits of material off the side of the screw!:--) So I had him stop and I just went ahead and buttoned everything back up.

Anybody had this much trouble while trying to mess with the plate?:confused:

I used one of those hand-held impact thingees that you hit with a hammer. I paid about $5 for it at Harbor Freight and it comes with a wide screwdriver bit perfect for this job. :D

Mark Chappel (TST) has you to use a hammer impact in his instructions to get the break off screw out, so I use that tool all the time just get it had tight. Those hammer impacts are a great tool, I had one from Harbor Freight but it came apart, Home Depot has them now for 25 bones.

Impact wrench - another Craftsman mistake of mine but it hasen't broken yet. They did get cheap and stop putting the spring in it though.

It's 3/8 drive and I heard from a friend that you need an extension to reach the plate screws. I've never done anything like that myself... :p

I have replaced all my AFC bolts and the 2 plate bolts with Allen head bolts, it sure makes getting them loose and tight much easier and less chance of metal debris getting in pump.

Deezul I want to know where you are finding these bolts in allen heads???? Because my local hardware and auto parts stores don't have them!:(

allen head bolts

got smoke;

the big hard ware stores like Lowe's, and home depot, have a specialty bolt and nut bins, they have a lot of different items in them.

Deezul, what size bolts were they?

Marv.

Take one of your old ones to match up. Home Depot has them. Check Joe Donnellys latest posts, in the last 2 days he addressed the size of the bolts

I found the post that gave the bolt sizes.

Top 2 are M6 x 1. 0 x 16 (18 works also). Lock washer and small OD flat washer.

Bottom 2 are M6 x 1. 0 x 25
