Hi. I just bought another oil sender unit for my truck. My Factory Dodge service manual says 144 ft. lbs for it! Maybe 144 In. Lbs but that's not what it says. I just want the real torque and I'll correct my manual for the next time and get the new sender installed proper. Afterall it's only 1/8" pipe thread. Thanks, Herb

On my 95, I put some Teflon paste at on the threads closer to base, not on the end that goes into the engine and then tightened it by hand. It has been fine for years. It definitely is not 144 foot pounds.

It came with dried red sealer on it. Did you add teflon also over that? Maybe your's were clean. Thanks, Herb

If its got red sealer on the threads don't use teflon just install it. FWIW, 1/8" pipe threads are tapered, they are sealing threads, there is no torque and definately not 144 ft. lbs. That is the torque spec for the nut on the front of the injection pump gear which you will need to know if you ever do a timing adjustment on it.

Honestly, I wouldn't even mess with the sending unit and just install a basic mechanical gauge, much more reliable and accurate.

The only reason I replace the sender unit on my 98 is to stop that annoying ding ding and zero reading everytime you pull up to a light. The 98 12 valvers oil sender and gauge are hooked to the PCM to my dismay. I think the only year that way. I measured the resistance curve in my old sender and it's about 90 ohms at it's least pressure measurement and 0. 5 ohms at max pressure. I may add a resister in parallel to my sender to up the readings and stop this mess. The sum of the sender and the resister will up the readings and keep the chime quiet in theory. I think 45 ohms total should read half way on the gauge. I'll go for more resistance to not up it too much like 130 ohms. If it works fine, I'll post what I did here on TDR. Anybody else do this before? Thanks, Herb
