this is strait off dealer connect.
 
I just checked and it is Just like RobertP said. 70ft# for the regular flywheel (40 ft# for the dual mass flywheel). 22. 5 ft# for the cover (pressure plate)
 
im 100% sure my numbers are accurate. jwilliams made me question my findings so took out the shop manual and found that the flywheel bolts are 70 ft lbs, and the pressure plate is 22. 5 ft lbs.



i have to learn not to question myself anymore ;)

I am 100% sure that your numbers are accurate according to what you are reading.

But they are incorrect. Infact 100% incorrect :)



Your last post made me question my self also so I decided fuey with the chrysler manual and I went and got my phone book size Cummins ISB manual.





I will transcribe exactly what it says:

Hold the crankshaft when tightening the flywheel capscrews.



Tighten the capscrews in a star pattern.

the only part that gets torqued to 100 ft lbs is the adapter to the crank shaft.

The adapter to the flywheel on a 2006 uses the same bolts that a flywheel does on a 2003.

There is no adapter on a 2003 since it is a solid flywheel.



We are talking the same bolts and holes here. The only difference on the adapter plate bolts is that they machine a little of the top of the bolt off to make room for the dual mass setup.



The manual specs I posted are out of a manual from the late 1990's before Dual Mass ever came on deck.

The picture in the manual is for a solid flywheel since thats all there was then for the Cummins.



Even if you do have Dual Mass then when you convert to an aftermarket clutch and flywheel you will remove the adapter plate anyways and then you will have to torque the new flywheel bolts to the crank to 101 ft lbs or 137 NM's.



I wish I had some pictures of the rear of both engines I would show you what the adapter plate and bolts look like and what the rear of regular solid flywheel engine looks like.



The only reason I continue to argue this like a mental patient is that I do not want someone under torquing their bolts and having a flywheel come off at 3500 rpm and hurting someone or something.

So you are saying that the Factory service manual for a 2005 is WRONG because your late 90's Manual for an ISB, not an CR, is different?

The ISBe crank is no different then an old VP44 equipped ISB crankshaft.



Same bolt diameters, same bolts for flywheels.



The same flywheels were used on 5 speed NV4500's from 1994-2003 and the 6 speed nv5600 flywheels were the same from 1999-2005.



Go ahead torque them to 70 ft lbs... . be my guest... :-laf



And bob I just dont go off of book/tech manual knowledge I learned a little bit about these engines at work... . ;)



Side Note:

This is not the first time a manual has been wrong even the Cummins manuals have mistakes sometimes. I remember a manual stating thermostat housing bolts should be torqued to 18ft lbs or 24NM and that was totally incorrect. Correct torque was 10NM.

It all comes down to who is writing them, they are people just like you and me.

I called a local puller whom I might say has a great rep for clutches and he said 101 ft lb. thanks Justin for the info. zooms in nice light pedal effort. no I have not driven it transmission needs fluid as does the transfer case.
