Got one of the Cummins 245/505 ECMs for the ETC. UPS dropped it off last night,so I installed it on my lunch break. I was really hoping to get that smooth and quiet idle like the ETH trucks have, but I only got the somewhat smooth part.

The first drive "around the block" wasn't impressive, but the more miles I put on during my drive home, the more I started to like it.

With the DD stage 2 injectors,my truck maxes at 34psi of boost. With the new ECM installed,it now maxes at 35psi. Max EGT's are unchanged. It also seems like the truck smokes just a tad bit more during normal acceleration.

At first I wasn't impressed with a hard acceleration. It took a few times to notice, but there is no longer the power spike when you hit 2000rpm. Revving the engine hard through the gears all the way up to 3000rpm is absolutely smooth with no spikes. The real impressive part was testing the torque up a couple of 12% hills near home. With the stock ECM,if I had a running 1800rpm start in 5th gear (6spd),it would lug half way up the hill and I would have to downshift to 4th. The torque band is suprisingly lower on the Torqus. I held the throttle at 1600rpm in 5th gear all the way up,and the truck never bogged going up the same hills.

Another thing that was interesting was the Jacobs brake operation. The stock ECM has a 1. 5 second delay, then the brake engages. The Torqus only has a 1 second delay. I like that much better.

So far I only have 25 miles on it and the verdict is still out. But I'm liking the lower torque band and ebrake function, and hoping to see if the timing in the Torqus gives any better mileage.

The clock is ticking...

I would do this conversion, but I am going to wait for Marco's M. A. D. ECM instead. Think this would give me more what I want. I am wondering what you paid for itthough.

Mike R,

Glad to hear that you like the TM.

Maybe we got just two different versions of the TM. My findings are that the TM defuells sooner than my stock ECM. The torque is there lower, boost builds up a little sooner but by 2500 Rpm the needle of the boost gauge is falling very fast towards the ground.

BTW, with my DD III's all I got was 32 Psi...

TM with my auto and DTT stuff is great. Higher torque at lower rpm. seems max torque & hp about 2400 rpm then drops off but I tow at 75 mph @2175 rpm in direct GV od. Coupled with the PDR turbo it is about as good as it gets for towing.

In town drivability is also great as off line performance is enhanced with the quick boost and lower rpm higher torque curve.

:More hp is nice but if yoou have to scream at 2700 rpm to get it then it is out of my operating range.

Am waiting with baited breath for torque and hp curves on the MAD ecm.

I'm also waiting for the availability on the M. A. D. ecm's,I just couldn't pass up the incredible offer on this one. I'd rather have one of Marco's units for obvious reasons.

I heard that since this is a Cummins ecm, that they could go in and reprogram things in it. Maybe I'll go by Cummins and ask.

Vaughn,

There was tad bit idle improvement, but not the results I was looking for.

Rick,

It's easy to install:

-Disconnect neg battery cables.

-Remove the two fuel filter housing bolts and move housing over.

-Unscrew wire harness bolt.

-Remove the 3 ecm attaching bolts and the ecm comes right out.

Do the reverse to install the new one.

Now,after you're done installing the new one, don't start the engine. Turn the key to the 'on' position, then slowly press the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor, and slowly release it. This is so the new ecm learns the voltage parameters of the APPS. Now you can start it up.

These ecm's cost anywhere from $850 to $1000 bucks.

Scott1 swapped ecm's between his ETC and ETH when he still had both trucks. It does not work. Neither truck would run and it set check engine lights.
