Cummins 4BT

Cummins in my f600?

Whoa... . went over a cliff after hitting a patch of ice. Lived and climbed up to the road after squeezing out. I will need to get another diesel truck soon. I like Cummins. As of last night I had an '01 2500 long bed CTD. I tow a 5th wheel. What should I get? Manual or Auto? Or should I go 3500. I don't tow that 5th wheel more than a few times a year. I really liked my truck.

I had all guages, rebiult transmission, 3XTC, AFE intake and Banks exhaust. FASS, 200,000 mi, Edge Comp...

Any imput? Thanks.

Glad to hear you are OK

Once you settle with the insurance company I would check out a 3rd gen. There are lots of good deals to be had right now

Sorry about the loss, but more importantly, glad you are o. k.

Should you go with a 3rd gen (considering one myself to replace the 98 12V), even if you only tow your 5th a few miles, I would suggest a 1T srw simply for the "just in case" payload/safety margin.

The transmission is really a personal thing, as for me, standard only.

Best of luck with the insurance and replacement, hopefully you're not long with out a Cummins :D

CHIRP, What size 5er do you tow? Weights?? Without knowing that information one cannot really give an educated reply. For all we know your 2500 could have been tons overloaded…. see my point?:)

As the others posted, glad to hear you are OK, that's the important thing:):)

CHRIP, I too am glad you're okay. Go for a new 3500 long bed CTD. Cost difference isn't that much more over a 2500. I hear great things about the new 6 speed auto, however I'm partial to a standard 6 speed.

Pictures

Attached are pictures. One is the 2001 I crashed and the next two are the new 2005.

WOW talk about a step in the right direction! That thing looks great!

Glad you made it out of that wreck ok.

Nice new truck, glad you walked away from the 01. I was looking at all your mods on the 01 and though you could buy it back, and part it out, or sell it complete. It would be great for a conversion. of course this would depend on the buy back.

I thought about parting it out. I'm really sorry to see it go. I just don't have the time to deal with it and make the parting out happen. It's actually easier for me to just let my insurance have it. Buy back is $3,000. I really liked that '01. The 2005 I'm driving now is nice, but I liked the 01 better. I'll be ready to start on the '05 soon. 1st step is to get the transmission ready. Thanks for all the good thoughts everyone. It's good to be healthy and okay after such a horrific crash.

The buy back is not set in stone. You can negotiate the price. My started out at 7500 and i bought it back for 2500.

Its worth it if you have a place to put it.

Thanks

Thanks to all of you who posted comments. It's a belated thanks, but a big thanks non the less!

I really like my 3rd gen now that I have had it for 5 months. It tows great, even with 315's. I put an S&B intake and elbow on it, MBRP cat back, Snow Performance Milage Max. XM Radio... Just put some new tires on it. I really came out of that wreck better for it. Amazing. Insurance gave me 17,000 for the crashed '01. Not bad :)
