5th wheel hitch for 05 2500

My 04 3500 dually is a little short of box to trailer clearance. I am thinking of removing the stock bed and switching to a flatbed or a toter bed. Anyone know of some of the better brands of flatbeds? I want something that looks nice. I have contemplated building my own, just hard to make the time to get it done.

Try sport chassis or cowboy cadillac for an expensive bed. I hear CM has nice steel hauler beds. If you were on the east coast I'd recommend TG Mountaineer for an aluminum bed.

I have a CM bed on mine. It is an ordinary flatbed with full skirt rear but open sides. I had the dealer install four storage boxes under the bed - two longer ones in front of wheels and two shorter ones behind. It was not real expensive, much cheaper than the fancier full skirt or tow beds, and a good product for the price.

CM has a nice rounded rack at the front that matches the cab profile and is powdercoated to prevent rust.

If you just need a little extra clearance between the box and trailer, why not just do the "remove the extra spacers" modification? A whole lot cheaper. :)

I saw the slide show that Newt posted so I decided to have the spacers taken out of the springs on our truck. Great modification - should be this way from the factory.

The truck sits much more level without changing any front end components, the tailgate is lower to the ground, hitch is lower to the ground and I can park the truck in the garage with a cap on the rear. It's been all positive for me. Remember to readjust your headlights.

Now if I could only lower the whole truck another 3" I would be really happy!

Thanks for the lowering idea. . Gonna take a look at that today ; I already blocked the trailer axles and it is not quite enough. I tend to drive in some pretty adventurous places.

When I bought my 03 it had a steel deck on it and when I needed a tow the AMA ( AAA ) wouldn't tow me because of the deck. I remember reading on here that in some states a deck meant "commercial" plates as far as the licensing people were concerned. Just a thought. Shadrach
