Has anyone bought the Tough Country Wheel-to-Wheel step bars? I really like the look of them so I got in touch with them to get a price. I about fell over when they told me the price.

I also looked at the n-fad bars and they are on the high end of what I would pay for a set of step bars. The Tough Country bars were almost twice the price as the n-fab.

I don't particularly like the fact that on the n-fab bars you have to drill the body to mount them. The Tough Country, from what I got from the rep, mount to the body mounts like most of the bars on the market. If they mounted to the frame I might be willing to pay the money for them but I think they want way too much for something that mounts to the body mounts.

Has anyone actually compared these two side-by-side?

I got the Tough Country wheel to wheel boards. The ones with the tube, with the diamond plate welded on it. They are great, actually big enough to climb on with boots on, and strong enough to take the weight. They have bolts that replace the cab to frame bolts, and bolt onto the frame where the body bolts to. Very strong mounting, and no drilling. Took me about 20 minutes to put them on, by myself, both sides. Pricey, but I got them through a group purchase here, and saved a good bit. The powder coating is holding up good too, in our salty winters, have had them about 3 years now, no rust anywhere.

I've been happy with mine too. Much better powdercoat than my Ranch Hand bumpers. (which are now more rust than black)

If you guys don't mind me asking, what did you pay for the running boards?

SilentDave - thanks for the pics.

I like Tough Country's mounting system better than N-Fab. I have beard nothing but very good things about N-Fab though, I just don't want to drill holes in the body of a new $40K truck.

kschitoskey, do you have any pics? And it mounts the same as the tough country? How's the powder coat holding up?

Thanks!!

Frontier Gear

I've only had them on for a couple of months. In the New Mexico sun, UV is definitely something I'm worried about with anything powdercoated (especially black). They're a little dirty; you can see a better image on the Frontier Gear website. Mounts to body mount locations, replacement bolts are included. I've not seen the Tough Country ones, but I think it's the same. My old Westin nerf bars from previous vehicle mounted the same.

I have N-fab on my truck, overpriced and not as sturdy as some of the others I've seen. One of the truck shops near buy has some they have made for them by a welding shop, alot sturdier, better mounting (frame and body mount), wider steping surface, and cheaper. Wish I seen those before I got the N-fab. I dont recomend them.

I went the cheaper route! 320 for the same thing. weld on wheel to wheel. 06 Mega I use the truck for service and love them! Weathford truck (assoceries) in Weatherford TX. No web site and had to wait two weeks but worth the money!!
