Glad to hear that its looking better than the last time they 'fixed' it. I've never been into one of these getrags so I'm of little help, but its been an interesting adventure to read about. Definitely makes the nv4500 swap look better and better. How many thousand feet is your house at?

Coalsmoke! Man, If I could swing that conversion, it would be in process, straightaway! We're at 9050' according to the USGS Topo map. GregH

Yeah Buddy! I've been accused of being "high" 'specially this close a proximity to Boulder:-laf. Been living up here since 1975. Its "in the blood" now:D. GregH

What's in the blood?!?! IT's not oxygen!!!!! Geesh. Was hunting out in NM in Nov. around 7-8k ft. Thought I was in good shape, but coming from 850-2500 ft to that... ... wow! Sucking air like an old Moline Motor!!

Greg, just so you know, the NV4500 kit from Blumenthal lists around $2700, I think. Wholesale cost on it was $2400... ... It came with the Advance Adaptor bellhousing, adapter mounting plates, shifter, fluid, and a NV4500 with a shortened nose housing and input shaft. But you can use your stock clutch and driveshafts... . so that's a bonus. I really just wanted to get away from the Getrag, as parts are impossible to find, and I have NV parts on the shelf. If you ever burn a getrag's counter shaft or gear set, they'll have to be custom made or found in a donor somewhere. I can barely get ANY of the parts new..... I'm curious as to where your shop is getting it's shafts, as I wasn't aware any were available anymore?!?!! But if they can get it done for $600, you're definitely coming out ahead..... IF they can ever get it right. Those were good trannies for 160hp engines... . :D

As for the pump, I'm curious to see if the Eaton filter units like what Geno's sells (K1444?)can be drilled and tapped, with a line out the bottom, and the outlet be pumped into the top of the transmission... ... would they have enough pressure from centrifugal force to lift the fluid to the top of the transmission? It wouldn't take much pressure with motor oil... ... . I've wanted to do that on my NV trannies to pump the oil through a cooler during the summer, but I don't know if they'll generate enough pressure to return the oil back to the transmission(back into the fill plug?), or cycle enough fluid to even be beneficial... ...

Anyone?

Drove the truck over to the shop, today. The shifting went without a hitch. Still need alot more highway time. The new syncro coupled with the synthetic oil seems to be working well in the short term. The clutch? I havent really given it a workout. We havent had alot of snow, so far this year. If the weather holds, I hope to drive over to the rifle range in the next few weeks. Thats a 140 mile round trip with mixed highway, back roads and 4X4. GregH
