Tough to get out of park

I paid off the truck about 2 months ago and now the problems start. I have an 05 2500 with 63,000mi. First problems were the radio and rear tail light. No big deal, I replaced both. Then the 4wd indicator light stopped working. I did some research on the forums and figure its the transfer case switch. I still have 4wd working and my cruise control and heat both work. Not a big deal (hopefully), I just need to replace the switch. Now I am having problems getting the truck out of park. Once I am out I have no problems with the other positions or going between them. I only have the problem getting out of park. I have been setting the e-brake before putting the truck in park and that has helped, but I am still having it stick. From what I have read it could be the valve body? I don't think the 4wd indicator light is related, but maybe I'm wrong. Any ideas or other possibilities?

Your 4wd light comes from either the front axle or the transfercase. I'll have to look that up to verify. Your hard to get out of park was cured for me with a valve body. Hopefully the techs you get have a couple of intelligence points than mine did. They fixed the park issue but now I can shift out of park without the brake depressed.

I had a chevy tahoe a while back that was a boat truck and she would stick in park. got to the point that i had to leave the key in and in neutral. I'd throw a towel over the wheel and column. Sorry I cant help and hope it doesnt get to that point

Thanks, There is an electrical interlock that prevents the shift from park to neutral unless the brake is depressed with ign. on. Don't know if it is located in the shift mechanism or the transmission but I would check the brake light switch as that is probably what activates/deactivates the interlock. bg

I think the simple answer is what BG is suggesting... nothing more than the electrical switch that unlocks the transmission is out of adjustment or your not depressing the brake enough to make it work...

I have several trucks with 4WD and most of them in the winter won't turn on the dash light when the lever is in 4WD... you crawl under the truck and clean the connector and it works... the switch is nothing more than a ground for the circuit with very little current flowing... .

We've put dielectric grease on it. . our next step is to put shrink tubing on it with and adhesive in the tube to prevent the dirt and water from stopping the flow of current...

I had same problem with my 05.

I made sure I pushed hard on brake before

putting in gear.

My 05 was the same way and at times you thought that you might have to break off the gear shift to get out of park.

Then it was one of the 48re's that jumped into reverse on its own and took off into a drainage ditch.

After the run around with the dealer about this problem [truck jumping into reverse] the dealer did some adjustments on parking cable and linkages and has been easy to get out of park ever since and no more run-aways.

It was the valve body and covered under warranty (just barely). 100 dollars. I also ordered the transfer case switch (I'll put that in when it warms up a little).
