Tow a fire truck??

The fire station called me this evening and said the ladder truck (60,000 lbs. ) was broke down on the interstate. When I got there I found that the return fuel line was leaking. Not having the stuff to fix it,I hooked up my 1995 2500 using a 2. 5" tow strap and brought it 52 miles back home. Engine temp. never got over 190, 175 on flats and 190 on hills. The firefighters I towed back laughted when I told them I was going to tow them back. When we got back one of them said I'm get'in one of those trucks. These trucks are awesome. Just had to get that off my chest. RAM ON!!

1967 Coronet 440, Cool!!! I'll bet it even has the console mounted shifter with the round handle and the button on top, or is it the column shifter? My brother had a Plymouth Satelite 318 that was about that vintage. I also know a guy who had a Roadrunner Superbee 440 six pack. I think it even had the air foil on the back. He let me drive it once. It seems that cars like that cost about $4000 back then.

The big question is how did you stop it?
I assume the fire truck has air brakes. After a few stops with the engine off the brakes would be done. I tried this once with one of my Isuzu FSR's. Got about a mile before the low-air warning horn went off.

Good job on the towing. Made me think of the commercial on tv where the guy is in an 18 wheeler and a little suv hooks up to it.

got any pics of the Coronet? I've got a 67, 2 door hardtop original big block car with A/C. It has about 8 years on a quickie resto/Daily driver. Need to get the time to get it back on the road. will try to scan some pics this week and post them.

We used the air brakes on the truck by idleing the engine. The return line was slow dripping @ idle but would pour under acceleration.

No pics of the Coronet, I have pics but don't know how to get them on the computer. I don't have a scanner.
