I believe I read a post here that someone used heavy electric/hydraulic on regular electric trailer brakes???? What is the difference from heavy electric to heavy electric/hydraulic? Thanks. Too chicken to try myself... LOL

The electric brakes are drum and shoe type and are activated by a magnet dragging inside the drum inner face when applied. They have to be adjusted frequently to keep in working condition. The electric/hydraulic brakes are disc brakes with an electric activated pump that applies pressure to the calipers when activated. Usually far superior to the drum type. Kits are available for some axles to convert to electric/hydraulic system. There is a momentary delay in the electric/hydraulic brakes that I have as it takes the pump a second to apply pressure. I have read that there is a system available with no delay but have no info on it. bg

I had Kodiak hydraulic brakes installed on my 05 Airstream. The 06 and newer Airstreams come standard with them. There is a slight pause when you apply the brakes but it's really quick and the brakes work so nice that you forget about the pause. I've had them for 5 years and love them and I would definitely want them again.

One of the big reasons I like them is they don't fade or heat up. When I had electric drum brakes I would have to re-adjust the controller as the trailer brakes heated up and started to get grabby. I have a MAXBRAKE controller and that coupled with the hydraulic disc brakes it's like the truck and trailer are one and I've set the controller once and never touched it again.

I believe that the OP is asking about the settings on the factory controller and using the EOH setting on electric brakes. I also have the same question.

You are right. Have no experience with the integrated controller. I do have a 5th wheel with EOH and one with electric drum brakes and a 16' utility trailer wihth electric drum. I use a time ramp controller and just change the setting on the controller to suit which ever one I am pulling. The settings are not that much different except fot the utility trailer empty, doesn't take much to lock it up. Settings for the EOH are about 5 to 5. 5, the drum fifth wheel runs about 4 to 5 and the utility about 2. 5 to 3 empty. bg

When you go into the menu there are 4 settings. If your trailer has EOH brakes you should set the controller for that for proper braking. You can also set the braking level. Play with the controller and learn. There is nothing to be afraid of. Don't experiment in heavy traffic. I tow a lot and so far I like the controller.

Did the adjustable mode brake controller just come out for the 2012 model year? I did not see the option to change it on the EVIC on my 2010.

Yes 2012 only.

I am going to try my Dad's controller from his 12 in my 11 to see if it will work, I doubt it will. Then it will be a MaxBrake.
