Also - is it bad to use it driving around town unloaded? I was experimenting yesterday to see if it would hold gears and cool down the AC any faster . . . It is already getting real hot in AZ.

I can't answer your specific question but I run mine in tow/haul 100% of the time now running loaded or empty. On the average I'm getting one more mile per gallon when not loaded by doing so. I know 1 mpg is not much but it adds up over time.
