Can I drive with tow/haul mode always engaged? Empty & w/ a load...

I like the way tow/haul mode shifts through the gears, locks the torque converter, and downshifts when slowing down. I have also experimented w/ using tow/haul vs. regular operation through several full tanks of fuel and consistently get 1-1. 5MPG gain (hand calculated) in tow/haul.

Will this cause premature wear of any kind? Am I harming my transmission by driving in tow/haul while unloaded?

I have searched and cannot find much information regarding always driving in tow/haul. I have seen a post in which one gentleman referenced the mpg gain in tow/haul, but cannot find the thread via search now.

My 2006 auto is relatively new w/ ~7100 miles on it.

Regards,

Ben

Yes you can use TH all the time loaded or empty. No it won't hurt anything, also, it is a lot easier on the trans if you do a lot of stop-n-go driving plus the possibility of mpg gains. I have run mine 90% TH for 55k with no problems. Can't speak to mpg gains but my truck does quite well for what it is. :)

I run in Tow/Haul about 99. 9% of the time. When it goes in gear, it gets turned on. I have experienced pretty much the same results. I found it will stay in gear longer when slowing down, very important when going down hill. With out it, the transmission would go to neutral at 45 mph and start speeding up. Not fun. Anyways, I tow a lot in the mountains and the temps stay down.

Same here i try to always run it. Is there any way to keep it from turning off when you turn the truck off? I forget to turn it back on from time to time.

I want the same thing! I read in the manual that you must turn it on each time, but it wouldn't surprise me to discover that one of the guru's here has found a way around it.
