Tow/Haul operation by model year?

I am asking this for a friend who has an '04. 5 CTD. Should the tow/haul

operation of his '04. 5 be the same as my '05? His truck does not engage overdrive when in tow/haul. My truck does. I was under the impression that it was earlier model years when the tow/haul was simply an overdrive lockout. I suspect he has a transmission problem, but it could just be a build date differentiation. Opinions?

In regular mode on a 03-04 truck = 1 - 2 - 3 - lockup - unlock then shift to 4 - lockup.
T/H mode or OD off = 1 - 2 - 3 - lockup.
You can control shifts manually with lever in T/H mode = 1 - shift to second - 2 - lockup - shift to third - 3 - lockup.
You can also use the shift pattern in backwards pattern slowing down for engine brakeing effect.

The 05 trucks will do the same only they do not have a OD off position.

The 06 trucks will do the same thing as a 03-04 truck except they have a OD off position and T/H mode.
OD off = 1 - 2 - 3 - lockup.
T/H = 1 - 2 - 3 - lockup - unlock shift to 4 - lockup.
T/H manually control shifts with lever = 1 - shift to second - 2 - lockup - manual shift to third - 3 - lockup - manual shift to 4th - 4 - lockup.
You can also use the shift pattern in backwards pattern slowing down for engine brakeing effect.

Now my brain is mush, hope some one can understand the patterns.

So it sounds like even though he has an '04. 5 with a 610 engine, his transmission is running '04 programming?



If that is the case, I wonder if it could be reflashed to '05 operation?

I don't know if they can reflash it for another years program, I don't think they can, but who knows.

The program in the 03-04 trucks and 06-present is perfered by most (not all) since you can lock out OD. In the 05's you can not lock out OD.

The 03-04 trucks can not get 06 programs because of the button control. Anything can be done if you want it bad enough but at what expense.

Yes, on my '05 I would love to be able to have the '06 style control of both tow/haul and OD lockout separately.



I was hoping someone would know at what build date they changed to the '05 style operation.
