Is there a special type of bolt used to attach our tow hooks to our frames? My 4x4 "OFF ROAD" package truck came with the tow hooks- under the back seat! I am soon going to be taking it to my collision mechanic to have them installed, and would like to supply him with the correct parts if possible.

If any of you have expirience with this, any part #'s or sizes would be great.

I remember a huge debate over this question a couple of years ago, can't remember who I was debating with

Grade 8 for me, a few others like the grade 5 route. I guess it's whatever you feel comfortable with.

It takes more than just bolts. There are brackets that bolt to the frame, & then the hooks bolt to the brackets.

If you have the brackets, any Grade-8 bolts of the proper size and length should work. Ace hardware can hook you up. Just make sure you buy Grade-8.

I don't have any pictures, but you can download a service manual from www.hemitruckclub.com

Look half way down the left frame on the first page.

I don't know if I would trust them once you get them on. I took my bumper off to install the body lift and they came off with the bumper. They just don't look like they would be secure enough to handle a good pullin. my . 02

I have yanked CTD's buried to the frame with the factory hooks... ... . if they were installed correctly,No worries. I have used the hooks on the 2nd gen with the hy lift jack

They bolt to the frame on my 05. I had to remove them to install brackets for my Push Bar then the hooks are mounted over the brackets on the same mounting holes with longer bolts. The trick was to get the washer and nut on a very narrow space between the radiator and the the frame. I used a long needle nose Vice Grip to hold the nut to start the bolt. The Grill Guard is attached to the Push Bar.
