Tow Mirror Glass change?

Is it possible to take the left mirror glass and install it on the right mirror then put the right mirror in left side? I have a 102" wide truck camper and this would move the convex portion to the inside and give an undistorted view down the camper side.

What year truck are you asking about?? If it is a 3rd gen, no.

Tow Mirror Glass Change

Sorry, it' an 06 3500 DRW SLT 4X4. I was afraid of that. It's one of those situations where you can almost see without completely diverting all your attention. Velvac makes great mirrors for others but not CTD's. #@$%!

I too hate the location of my convex mirror. Could we replace it with an all flat one and then add a little stick on wherever I want?

I pulled my driver side mirror off yesterday and did not notice any special slot, it is circular where it seats into the housing. If you have heated mirrors you will have 4 connectors, just be careful when disconnecting the wires.

• The first thing is to push the mirror towards the front fender (It will only move forward a little), flip the mirror to the tow postion and adjust the mirror to the left.
• You will notice two metal clips(SECOND PICTURE), you will need to squeeze them together and away from the mirror. I found it easy to do it one side at a time, now your mirror should come out of the housing.
• Now you can disconnect the 4 wires that supply power to the heating elements on the mirror.

MAKE SURE THE CLIP IS IN PLACE WHEN YOU RE-INSTALL YOUR MIRROR!!!

Mine are stock 2003-08 Tow. Did you have yours replaced and do you have a picture?

I replaced the glass in the drivers side and the whole mirror on passenger side. No pictures. I still have the old crushed one from the passenger side. I think I paid like $125. 00 for aftermarket complete mirror. The glass from dealer was over $50. 00 bg

On my 08, to remove the mirror backing, you need to push in on a tab and slide the mirror up to remove. The one SWithrow posted does not look like it. Those could be an after market tow mirror like Geno's sells.

Nope, but I have been wrong in the past. My mirrors are factory (Owned the truck since 03) Could DCC have different manufactures that supply tow mirrors? They all look the same on the outside...

Indeed DC must have used different suppliers or, at some point, changed the design. Some of the oem mirrors use a large clip to hold the glass in, like yours, while others use tabs and slots to hold the glass in. , like mine. On the ones that use tabs and slots, you must first gently slide the mirror glass towards the outside of the mirror (slides left on the drivers side, slides right on the passenger side). In the past, I have used a plastic pry bar to GENTLY pry outwards in between the outside of the mirror glass and the inside of the housing. The PLASTIC pry bar worked really well to push the tabs off the slots, then the pulls forward off the backing plate... as other have said, be sure to remove the wires before you pull the mirror more then a few inches forward.



All that being said, I do not think that the left and right sides are interchangeable.

I flipped my glass by heating it up then slowly prying it up, then I glued it on the opposite sides, I also changed the convex to a more wider angle convex. Look at my readers rigs for a picture.

Speaking of mirrors, after colliding with another Dodge on a narrow road, he was on the line, I was right of it, our mirrors hit and both were shattered, I stopped, he just kept on going. #@$%!



At that point, I decided I don't need those big mirrors for what I tow, I found the non-flip ups, heated for $65. 00/pair and replaced them and like them much better and they work for me. Obviously, it you have a 5th or something wide/long they're not going to work.



My question tho is this, if you are one of the guy's I see all the time driving around with you mirrors flipped up, not towing, and or don't even have a hitch, why do you do that ? Is it some kind of "kool factor" ?

If you are seeing Duallys running around with the mirrors out many people do that as a constant reminder that you have a fender back there that is sticking out just as far, if the mirror don't clear it the fender won't either.

Nope, just SWD guys. I new about the dually factor so I never gave it any mind. .

I drove one time with them up, just because I prefer the convex in the outer lower edge, in the down position the convex is in the upper outer edge, BUT, they stick way far out, didn't like the looking towards the truck first then back angle you get if there's no trailer behind you. So that's why I did the swap, basically the glass from the drivers side is now on the passenger side and vice versa, and my convex is where I want um.
