HARD towing with the new 2013

I would think, that with a little ingenuity, you could probably make it happen. There are tons of mirror controls on eBay that would work, and could be hard wired in someplace. It might not be exactly factory, but I bet you could make it work!

Ok boys... . I called the dealer parts and they told me that if you attempt a "tow mirror" install with anything other then " manuel" mirrors,(2013 of course) the module in the door will not work. Apparently the trucks with tow mirrors installed have a "module" installed that allows the mirrors to work..... If you upfit a truck, the power portion will not work... .

I called GENOS and talk about dead ends like your talking to Auto Zone... . I try to give GENO my biz, but sometimes they are just too high $$

So, I guess my options are real small like... ... . Keep the "SLIP ON'S" that look like, well you know what I was gonna say... . Or, to retain my dignity in front of Ford and chebies in RV parks, I may have to resort to "MANUEL" mirrors... ... ... I can just leave them extended to look like I have a tough truck... That way I wont have to reveal I have a idiot truck with manuel mirrors in the year of 2013... ... Wish I could take a vote..... I wish there was rule that any truck over 40K MSRP gets tow mirrors unless... ... Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... . lol

Keep digging, the RAM guy at Columbus thought the modules would be the same between tow and non-tow UNLESS your truck had power fold mirrors when built.

I'm curious about the sensor thing as well.

Bob 4X4, can you check that out to see if the modules would indeed be the same part number when you get a minute???

Mike.

Mwilson, I cant figure why chrysler would have different modules,ie cost, assembly line foul ups etc. The power to operate the mirror portion of the window you would think would be universal from tow to regular mirrors. All its doing is moving the glass part. I'm going to keep poking around till I get a answer. I'd hate to buy $400+ mirrors manual and find out I could have bought power.

If I remember the OEM's kit from the dealer for 1500-manual were $475 and Kool vue from GENOS $440. I'd rather buy OEM's for the little difference.

Informed sources on the board here confirm that the "modules" for regular or tow mirrors are the same. The problem appears to arise when you attempt to install power flip up tow mirrors, instead of just plain old manual flip up mirrors... So, I think I will order mirrors that have all but power flip up no turn signals... With any luck, I'll have real tow mirrors after Labor day weekend.

Be sure to have the option code added so your new mirrors will be covered under your factory warranty and service contract if you have one

I went to Larry Miller Avondale store today to look at the tow mirror package, but never got that far. The parts person showed me that the only listing she had was 2012 mirrors and a note on the screen said *WILL NOT WORK ON 2013's"... ... .

Anyhow, I suppose the powers that be changed "something" and the price per mirror is around $500 ea... . No thanks. I'll keep my "slip ons" until I can figure a work around on this issue. I'll just have to keep my head down when I pull into RV parks etc with my comical slip ons on my rated 8 TON+ truck towing capacity, with a class 5 hitch until I can find real tow mirrors... :)

I think I got the only 2013 2500 Diesel RAM in Arizona without tow mirrors. Thanks Carl Rispoli... .

The accessory mirrors are 2012 style. They do not have the ambient sensor. The 13 mirrors must be purchased by single part number at this time.

I think I'm going to pull the trigger when I get home from labor day w/end. Got a decent aftermarket price and supplier. Worst case is I'll have to manually set the mirrors too.

Have a good weekend all.

I was doing my last bit of info gathering and thought CIPA was the OEM supplier for the tow mirrors. I called the company to get some technical info, but was told by customer service they dont make RAM mirrors.

Who is the OEM manufacturer for RAM tow mirrors? Thanks in advance.
