I put an ad in the classifieds but not all people read them. I am looking for a set of fold out towing mirrors to put on a 98. thanks,

Lance

Ebay usually has great prices on new ones.

Just beware, you cannot get power/heat, you have to make that yourself.

My son put a pair on his 96 wasn't a problem at all. Oo.

I put mine on in about 25 minutes. Very easy install. Pull the door panel back and unbolt the old mirrors. Depending on which stock mirrors you have unplug any wiring connections. Take the old mirrors off. The tow mirrors come with a plate that sits over the hole where the old mirrors bolted. Put the nuts on and hand tighten adjust them and then tighten them with a wrench.

I've just done the swap. Took a few hours. Mostly it was finding just the right sized flat screwdriver to pop the retainer rings off(broke a few but finally found a Klien tools one that was just the right sized and stood up fine to the abuse). Wear eye protection! Then getting them reseated was not easy but I just wrapped my mirrors in a couple of shirts and wedged into a wooden frame (actually a homemade dirtbike stand upside down) and used a big C clamp that I had padded the jaw of and a socket that fit just inside the outer ring of the retaining ring. Cranked it all down and the ring seated, then I used a small punch to seat the final teeth of the retainer ring well into the groove.

I found this worked the first time for the wiring(I just cut the plugs off my old power mirrors and used them as rat tails to solder on the new wires:

Matt,

Here is what I used on my 2001. 5 2500 for wiring:

Left Side Mirror:

Blue... ... ... ... ... ... ... White/Black – 1... ... ... ... Yellow

Black... ... ... ... ... ..... Black – 4... ... ... ... ... ... ... . Black/Green

Black... ... ... ... ... ..... Black – 5... ... ... ... ... ... ... . Blue/Yellow

Right Side Mirror:

Mirror ’06... ... ... ... . Connector – Pin... ... ... ..... Door ’01. 5

Blue... ... ... ... ... ... ... White – 1... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... Yellow/Black

Gray... ... ... ... ... ... ... Yellow – 2... ... ... ... ... ... ..... Blue

This is what worked for me. I used connector from some brocken mirrors. My only question is how does the mirror know when it is flipped up or down... neat trick    :-laf

Dallas Dodge Parts sells the 2nd gen non heated flip out tow mirrors for about $220 shipped to your door. About a 30 min job from start to finish. Once you have them you'll never tow without them again!

I bought a set of broken 2nd gen tow mirrors off TDR (he hit a pole) and then a used set of power/heat 3rd gen tow mirrors from a wrecking yard. Since all you need is the bases from teh 2nd gen, most junkyards would probably have those.

I have 176$ in them, including shipping. :D
