I have been using the McKesh for about 2 years now. Yes they do pull the rubber back when you install them, and Yes the rubber will move back when you take them off (no permant damage).
I bent the metal on the top clip that goes into the window grove back a little, and they do not rub my glass. The bottom bracket has a big piece of foam on it. I let this sit on the door just below the body side molding, but above the grove in the body. No damage or scratches to date.
Just wash off the dirt where the mirror pad hits the door first.
The top brackets have some kind of thick clear tape on them to help prevent scratches.
When I first got my mirrors, one of the straps came undone, and I had routed it the wrong way. I kept having problems with it rubbing the glass until I found the strap problem. If the strap is routed through the mirror the correct direction, you will end up pulling the mirror tight against outer door edge of the window slot (and bending the rubber gasket) when you tighten them up.
And again, I can see no damage to the rubber gasket. Take the mirrors off, and the rubber goes right back to its orginal position.
I think the power vision mirrors are better, but we have to compair prices here also.
The McKesh cost more then the slid-on types, but do a much better job, and they cost less then the Power vision ones. If I towed for a living, I would probably have the Power vision ones, but I don't. So I will just be carefull how I install my Mckesh ones being sure not to scratch anything
