installing reese 5th wheel rails

Dave -- Put my set on the first time, and took 'em off before I even set them. I didn't like the way they pulled the weather strip at the window, or the the way the window rubbed the bracket going up and down. Had already put a piece of mylar tape on bottom of door to protect it from that bracket. Gave up and bought PowerVision

I use a pair of slide on's on my 93. Had the usual vibration problems but came up wit a way to stop most of the problem. After they are adjusted carefully, dab a little silicon at 4 spots around each mirror. Stabilizes the mirror. Marked right and left inside each one so they go back the same way they came off.

Thanks, Denny. That's the kind of thing I was wondering about. I'm just so anal about scratches and stuff. Something like that would bug me to death. I'm not sure I can take the hit in the wallet on the Powervisions, but it might come to that. I've seen that a lot of guys really like the McKesh mirrors, though. So I wonder, anyone else have a comment?

I have been using the McKesh for about 2 years now. Yes they do pull the rubber back when you install them, and Yes the rubber will move back when you take them off (no permant damage).

I bent the metal on the top clip that goes into the window grove back a little, and they do not rub my glass. The bottom bracket has a big piece of foam on it. I let this sit on the door just below the body side molding, but above the grove in the body. No damage or scratches to date.
Just wash off the dirt where the mirror pad hits the door first.

The top brackets have some kind of thick clear tape on them to help prevent scratches.

When I first got my mirrors, one of the straps came undone, and I had routed it the wrong way. I kept having problems with it rubbing the glass until I found the strap problem. If the strap is routed through the mirror the correct direction, you will end up pulling the mirror tight against outer door edge of the window slot (and bending the rubber gasket) when you tighten them up.

And again, I can see no damage to the rubber gasket. Take the mirrors off, and the rubber goes right back to its orginal position.

I think the power vision mirrors are better, but we have to compair prices here also.

The McKesh cost more then the slid-on types, but do a much better job, and they cost less then the Power vision ones. If I towed for a living, I would probably have the Power vision ones, but I don't. So I will just be carefull how I install my Mckesh ones being sure not to scratch anything #ad

Power in/out extensions are sure nice when inching along in stop & go traffic on some of the narrow lanes we have here. Blows them away when I come next to another truck with tow mirrors and with mine extended the mirrors would hit each other. I retract mine and squeeze past and extend them out again. Also nice when squeezing through gates barely over 8 ft. wide.

Where do you get powervision mirrors????

Does anyone know, if the "Mopar Tow Mirror Kit" will fit a 96' model?
Mopar4less said they list it back to 97', but they have no data as to if it will fit the 96' model year.
Thanks for any info.

Koa Man, your link didn't work.

BG D, Yes they will. Purchase the kit. If it doesn't come with the reinforcements, you need to buy them.

Extreme 1,
That link was working before and on doing a search it shows the same link. Maybe they are having server problems. Anyway, I found another site with much of the same info on the Power Vision Mirrors. Try this one

BG D:

A plug for Mopar 4 Less. I just ordered the flip ups from Mopar 4 Less. They arrived damaged from shipping. They're sending me a new pair 2nd day delivery and aren't charging me the freight. I'm very happy with their service at this point. I don't blame them for the damage - it happens. It's how something like that is handled that separates the men from the boys. Very nice to deal with. I'll update when I get them.

I could have saved the dough if I would have been smart enough to order these mirrors on the truck in the first place. #ad
Oh, well.

Ed, Powervision told me they will be releasing their newly redesigned, power extendable, adjustable and HEATED mirrors in May. I have been waiting for this since I purchased my Ram in June of '98. I hope the new design looks just as cool as the older version does. #ad

First off... Thanks for all the replys everyone!

John,

I found the mirrors you are talking about and the web site for them, but I could not find a picture of them. Does anybody have a picture or a site where I can see a picture of the mirrors John is talking about?
Thanks again,
Ed

O. K. ... Never mind. You need to read the page before you assume that there is no picture. Went back and clicked on truck picture and there it is. It looks very nice and is exactly what I am looking for.

Thanks for all the help and disregard my post above.
Ed

I just realized, (I seem to be slow today), that the mirrors I was looking at are X-Mount Mirrors and not the Powervision Mirrors John was talking about. However, I like the looks of these mirrors. They install on the factory location AND the power / heat plugs into the factory wiring plug. I am going to be the test dummy and order a set. I hope they work well and don't have any vibration as the price is steep.
Here is the web site. http://www.automirrorsource.com/
